The Noël'ries de Grandvillars: Christmas magic at the foot of a giant sequoia
Grandvillars (90600) is a commune of about 3,500 inhabitants in the Territoire de Belfort, located about twenty kilometers south of Belfort, in the influence area of Delle and Montbéliard. The town has a particular heritage appeal: a centuries-old giant sequoia stands proudly in the heart of the village, on Place Charles de Gaulle, and is the town's vegetal symbol. It is around this exceptional tree that the "Noël'ries" Christmas market is set up each December.
The Noël'ries de Grandvillars is organized by the Municipality of Grandvillars and local associations with the support of volunteers and shopkeepers. It spans about ten days, from December 13th to 22nd, to offer residents and visitors an extended festive period rich in activities.
A generous and family-friendly Christmas market
The Noël'ries de Grandvillars offers a program that delights young and old alike:
- Christmas Chalets: A carefully selected range of artisan creators, local producers, and shopkeepers offering gift ideas, Christmas decorations, jewelry, natural cosmetics, and gourmet specialties.
- Heated Marquee: A covered and heated space where visitors can warm up and enjoy activities sheltered from winter weather.
- Traditional Carousel: To the delight of children who spin their dreams on this essential attraction.
- Mulled Wine and Christmas Specialties: Alsatian mulled wine, hot chocolate, roasted chestnuts, and Christmas sweets to warm visitors.
- Meetings with Santa Claus: Autographs, photos, and distribution of treats for children.
- Advent Concerts: Local choirs and musical groups to create the Christmas musical atmosphere.
- Street Shows: Artists, itinerant musicians, and festive performances throughout the market.
- Children's Workshops: Crafts, decoration workshops, and fun Christmas activities.
The Giant Sequoia: Symbol of Grandvillars
The giant sequoia on Place Charles de Gaulle is the distinctive element that makes the Grandvillars Christmas market unique. This extraordinary tree, which can exceed 50 meters in height when mature, gives a striking scale to the illuminations that adorn it in December. Photographing the Christmas Nativity scene at the foot of this vegetal giant is a must for visitors to Noël'ries.
A Festive Tradition that Brings People Together
Over the years, the Noël'ries de Grandvillars has become an unmissable event in the Advent calendar in the Territoire de Belfort and the Pays de Montbéliard. Its ten-day duration distinguishes it from single-weekend markets and allows it to reach a wider audience, including residents of neighboring communes and passing visitors.
Grandvillars: A Festive and Welcoming Commune
The commune of Grandvillars stands out for its year-round festive dynamism. The local festival, summer events, and the December Noël'ries demonstrate a municipality committed to the quality of life of its residents and the tourist attractiveness of its territory.
