About Rochemaure Aquarelle

The Rochemaure International Watercolour Biennial, organised by the Rochemaure Aquarelle association, brings together watercolour artists from around the world every two years in the sumptuous setting of Château de Joviac. Created in 2007, over its first ten editions, the biennial has welcomed more than a hundred different artists with a very high renewal rate. The event offers exhibitions, demonstrations, visits, and workshops, allowing visitors to discover the diversity of contemporary watercolour and meet internationally renowned artists.

International Watercolour at Château de Joviac

Over the editions, the Rochemaure International Watercolour Biennial has become an unmissable event for watercolour enthusiasts and professionals worldwide. Organised by the Rochemaure Aquarelle association, it takes place in the majestic setting of Château de Joviac, a noble 16th-17th century residence, on the heights of Rochemaure, in Ardèche.

The first edition was held in 2007. The biennial is now in its 11th edition (July 2026), after ten editions from 2007 to 2024 which welcomed over a hundred watercolour artists from around the world.

An International Showcase for Watercolour

The biennial stands out for the excellence and diversity of its program:

  • Exhibitions by world-renowned international watercolour artists
  • Live demonstrations by invited artists
  • Guided tours of the exhibitions
  • Workshops and courses for all levels, from beginner to advanced (3 days, 2 days, 1 day)
  • Specialised watercolour shop and bookstore

Château de Joviac, the Event's Jewel Box

Château de Joviac, located on Boulevard de la Croix de la Lauze in Rochemaure, is a remarkable example of noble architecture. Surrounded by its wooded park and outbuildings, it offers bright and elegant exhibition spaces, perfectly suited to showcasing works on paper. The bucolic setting of the park invites contemplation and rest between visits.

A Major Cultural Event in Ardèche

The International Watercolour Biennial has established itself as one of the major cultural events in southern Ardèche. It attracts a loyal and passionate audience from all over France and abroad, contributing to the cultural and tourist influence of Rochemaure. The workshops offered during the event allow everyone to discover or perfect their watercolour practice under the guidance of leading artists.
