The European Heritage Days in Hauts-de-Seine
Every third weekend of September, the European Heritage Days open the doors of historical, architectural, and natural sites in Hauts-de-Seine. Museums, estates, and monuments usually closed welcome the public for free guided tours, workshops, and discoveries in one of Île-de-France's richest heritage departments.
Every year, on the third weekend of September, the European Heritage Days (EHD) allow the general public to discover or rediscover exceptional architectural, historical, and natural heritage. In Hauts-de-Seine, a department particularly rich in remarkable sites, this national and European event takes on a special scale.
Organized in partnership with the Departmental Council of Hauts-de-Seine, the Ministry of Culture, and the municipalities of the department, the Heritage Days in the 92 offer dozens of sites open to the public each year, activities for the whole family, and guided tours by specialists. The 2025 edition was held on September 20 and 21, 2025.
Hauts-de-Seine is home to a heritage of remarkable richness and diversity. Sites open during the Heritage Days include:
The Musée Départemental Albert-Kahn in Boulogne-Billancourt, which houses the Archives of the Planet, a unique collection of 72,000 autochromes and 180,000 meters of film shot between 1909 and 1931, as well as the famous world gardens of Albert Kahn. This exceptional museum has joined the UNESCO World Memory network.
The Maison de Chateaubriand in Châtenay-Malabry, the residence of the romantic writer who wrote his Memoirs from Beyond the Grave there, surrounded by a 30-hectare classified park.
The Domaine Départemental de Sceaux, with its château, its Orangery—which houses the Île-de-France Museum—and its 180 hectares of gardens designed by André Le Nôtre, classified as a Historic Monument.
The Pavillon de Préfiguration du Musée du Grand Siècle in Saint-Cloud, a new museum project dedicated to 17th-century art in France, under development in the buildings of the former Sèvres manufactory.
The Jardin des Métiers d'Art et du Design in Sèvres, a space for creation and training linked to the Cité de la Céramique — Sèvres et Limoges.
The Tour aux figures by Jean Dubuffet in Issy-les-Moulineaux, a monumental work and a masterpiece of art brut.
The Arboretum du Domaine de la Vallée-aux-Loups in Châtenay-Malabry, with its exceptional botanical collection.
The Heritage Days in Hauts-de-Seine offer a varied program: guided tours for adults and children, creative workshops, theatrical visits, access to areas usually closed to the public. In 2025, a free electro-solar river shuttle was operated on the Seine during the heritage weekend, connecting several riverside sites.
The national theme for the 2025 Heritage Days focused on architectural heritage, inviting the public to rediscover the aesthetic and historical value of the buildings around us. For 2026, the theme will be announced by the Ministry of Culture in the spring.
The Departmental Council of Hauts-de-Seine is particularly active in promoting the heritage of its territory. It directly manages several remarkable estates, museums, and natural spaces, and invests annually in their restoration and cultural mediation. The Heritage Days are an opportunity to appreciate the extent and richness of this heritage managed by the department, accessible free of charge to Parisians and residents of the Île-de-France region for a weekend.
The European Heritage Days 2026 in Hauts-de-Seine will be held on September 19 and 20, 2026. Many heritage sites in the department will open their doors for free: museums, estates, gardens, and monuments. National theme to be confirmed by the Ministry of Culture.
The European Heritage Days 2026 will take place on September 19 and 20 throughout the Hauts-de-Seine department.
