Nature and Mountain Photography Festival of the Basque Country
Kliska is a photography festival dedicated to Basque nature and mountains, organized every autumn in Saint-Étienne-de-Baïgorry by the CPIE Pays Basque. For two days in October, the Plaza Xoko hall hosts photographic exhibitions, conferences, macro photography workshops, nature walks, and children's activities. The free festival highlights the landscapes and biodiversity of the Basque mountains through the eyes of photographers.
Created by the CPIE Pays Basque (Permanent Centre for Environmental Initiatives), the Kliska festival is dedicated to nature and mountain photography in the Basque Country. Organized in Saint-Étienne-de-Baïgorry, a village nestled at the foot of the Pyrenees in the Aldudes valley, this festival offers a photographic perspective on the landscapes, fauna, and flora of the Basque mountains.
The festival is structured around several highlights:
Kliska pays special attention to children and families with fun activities: nature games (“Soil Critters,” “Birds of Prey in the Basque Country”), photo rallies, and escape games on the theme of nature. These activities allow younger audiences to discover mountain biodiversity in an interactive and enjoyable way.
Admission to the festival is completely free, in line with CPIE Pays Basque's mission to raise awareness about the environment among the widest possible audience. Saint-Étienne-de-Baïgorry, with its preserved mountain landscapes and proximity to the Spanish border, offers an ideal setting for this festival celebrating the beauty and fragility of the Basque mountain ecosystems.
The 4th edition of Kliska will be held in October 2026 in Saint-Étienne-de-Baïgorry. Exhibitions of nature and mountain photography, conferences, workshops, nature walks, and activities for families.
