Opening of remarkable gardens across the Eure department
Each year, on the first weekend of June, the Eure department participates in the national Rendez-vous aux Jardins event, initiated by the Ministry of Culture. More than 80 remarkable gardens, famous or secret, historic or unusual, open their doors to the public to offer an unforgettable experience where nature, art, and heritage blend harmoniously.
Among the emblematic sites, the park of the Château d'Acquigny offers a romantic garden designed at the end of the 18th century between river meanders and canals, with remarkable and exotic trees, an orangery housing citrus collections, and a vegetable and fruit garden bordered by walls and canals, featuring 3,200 varieties of medicinal plants. In Giverny, the Musée des Impressionnismes offers free and guided tours of its garden by its gardeners, while the gardens of Claude Monet reveal the Clos Normand and the famous water garden with water lilies.
The Rendez-vous aux Jardins in Eure are not limited to major sites: private gardens usually closed to the public, communal parks, and community gardens also participate in the event. The program includes themed guided tours, botanical workshops for all ages, pruning and grafting demonstrations, and lectures on garden art. Each edition is dedicated to a national theme that guides the activities and exchanges with passionate gardeners.
From the Seine Valley to the plateaus of the Pays de Bray, through the Pays d'Ouche and the Eure Valley, the participating gardens showcase the diversity of the landscapes of Eure. French formal gardens, English-style parks, conservatory vegetable gardens, and contemporary gardens create a rich vegetal panorama, reflecting centuries of garden art in Normandy.
The 2026 edition of Rendez-vous aux Jardins in Eure will take place from Friday, June 5 to Sunday, June 7, 2026, with 92 gardens open to the public — a record for the department. This 23rd national edition is themed « The five senses in the garden: sight », which also celebrates the bicentenary of photography. Friday, June 5 is reserved for school groups; the general public is welcomed on Saturday, June 6 and Sunday, June 7.
For the fourth edition coordinated by Eurêka, the Department's attractiveness agency, the 2026 Rendez-vous aux Jardins in Eure brings together 92 gardens, the largest number ever reached. Alongside the emblematic sites are 17 new gardens joining the operation this year, including the Domaine d'Harcourt, reopened to the public, the abbey of Fatouville-Grestain, and several private gardens usually closed.
Selected by the National Commission for Heritage and Architecture, the theme « The five senses in the garden: sight » invites visitors to explore the perspectives, symmetries, optical illusions, and visual compositions of gardens. The bicentenary of photography adds a special dimension to the activities. The Ministry of Culture partners with the Valentin Haüy Association and the Committee of Parks and Gardens of France to offer sensory guided tours accessible to visually impaired and blind people.
Visitors can discover the gardens of Claude Monet in Giverny, a living impressionist work with its famous water garden and Japanese bridge, as well as the garden of the Musée des Impressionnismes Giverny, a botanical composition conceived as a painting. The Château d'Acquigny reveals its 18th-century romantic park, its citrus orangery, and its vegetable and fruit garden with 3,200 varieties of medicinal plants. The Domaine du Champ de Bataille in Sainte-Opportune-du-Bosc, one of the largest private gardens in Europe, the Château de Vascœuil and its contemporary sculptures in the forest, or the Château de la Mésangère in Monts-du-Roumois complete the major sites.
The edition also highlights confidential gems: Sinum Hortus in Bernay (an urban pocket garden of 200 m² with micro-landscapes), L'Eure Tranquille in Les Ventes (an artist's garden with organic forms), the Jardin de Lalie in Croisy-sur-Eure (a private garden exceptionally open), the arboretum of Conches, the Jardins de l'ancienne école in Guiseniers, the Domaine des Prévanches, and the Clos de Chanchore. The Eure department, which has 107 communes labeled « Villes et Villages Fleuris » (Flowered Towns and Villages), confirms its identity as a flowered department.
Reception of classes in participating gardens: educational visits, workshops, and demonstrations for students. This day is not open to the general public.
The 92 gardens of Eure offer free or guided tours, workshops, pruning and grafting demonstrations, conferences, exhibitions, and shows. Hours vary by site, generally from 10 am to 6 pm.
