Organ Music Festival in Eure — Notre-Dame Cathedral and Saint-Taurin Church of Évreux
The Eure Organ Festival highlights the remarkable organ heritage of Évreux Cathedral Notre-Dame and Saint-Taurin Church. Organized by the association AM.OR.C.E. (Friends of the Organs of the Cathedral and Saint-Taurin Church of Évreux), it offers an annual season of recitals, concerts, and auditions centered around the cathedral's grand organ — inaugurated in 2005 — and Saint-Taurin's historic organ. The program blends sacred music, baroque repertoire, contemporary creations, and dialogues with other instruments or voices, all within the exceptional setting of two major religious buildings in Évreux.
Évreux Cathedral Notre-Dame houses a grand organ inaugurated in 2005, a contemporary instrument installed in a classified Gothic building. A few hundred meters away, Saint-Taurin Church preserves a historic organ within one of the city's oldest places of worship. The association AM.OR.C.E. (Friends of the Organs of the Cathedral and Saint-Taurin Church of Évreux) looks after these two instruments and organizes concerts, recitals, auditions, presentations, and conferences throughout the year to keep this heritage alive.
Founded to support the maintenance and promotion of Évreux's organs, the AM.OR.C.E. association handles the musical programming and welcomes French and international guest organists each season, alongside vocal ensembles, instrumental groups, or soloists from other disciplines. Programs range from baroque music (Bach, De Grigny, Handel) to romantic and contemporary composers (Vierne, Litaize, recent creations), sometimes featuring unique dialogues with piano, cello, traditional polyphonies, or Breton ensembles.
The season primarily runs from spring to autumn, with a concert calendar at the cathedral and Saint-Taurin. 2026 is an anniversary year: the cathedral's grand organ celebrates its 20th anniversary, and AM.OR.C.E. is offering an exceptional festival from April to October for the occasion, with six major events (see 2026 edition). Concerts are accompanied by commented presentations, visits to the organ loft, and meetings with organists to introduce the instrument to the widest possible audience.
The association also conducts outreach activities for young audiences, notably through a school program («The Secret of Fifaro the Organist») which allows students from the region to discover the organ, its history, and its functioning through a fun and interactive journey.
An exceptional 2026 edition for the Eure Organ Festival: the grand organ of Évreux Cathedral celebrates its 20th anniversary. The AM.OR.C.E. association offers six major events from April to October 2026 at Notre-Dame Cathedral and Saint-Taurin Church, blending organ recitals, dialogues with cello, piano, Corsican polyphonies, Breton heritage, and multi-artistic creation. Featuring Jean-Christophe Revel, the brothers Jonathan and Tom Scott, Viviane Loriaut, the Tavagna ensemble, and Odile Jutten.
From April 12 to October 17, 2026, the AM.OR.C.E. association (Friends of the Organs of Évreux Cathedral and Saint-Taurin Church) celebrates the twentieth anniversary of the grand organ of Notre-Dame Cathedral in Évreux, inaugurated in 2005. An exceptional festival of six concerts spanning the musical year, at the Cathedral and Saint-Taurin Church, to showcase the full sonic and expressive range of the instrument.
The festival opens on April 12, 2026 at Saint-Taurin Church with « Amours, délices et orgues » (Loves, Delights, and Organs), a dialogue between organ (Jean-Christophe Revel) and cello (Sarah Ledoux). On May 30, a gala evening at the Cathedral with the Scott brothers — Jonathan on organ, Tom on piano. On June 14, a unique encounter between Viviane Loriaut's organ and the Corsican polyphonies of the Tavagna ensemble. On September 13, an anniversary recital « Différents visages de l'orgue » (Different Faces of the Organ) by Jean-Christophe Revel, titular organist. On September 27, a journey to Brittany with the Trio Kervarec. And closing on October 17, a multi-artistic creation blending organ (Odile Jutten), choirs, dance, and light design.
This anniversary edition is an opportunity to rediscover an exceptional instrument and the work carried out over twenty years by AM.OR.C.E. to keep the organs of the Cathedral and Saint-Taurin alive. Concerts, commented presentations of the instrument, and meetings with organists punctuate the season. A dedicated school program, « Le secret de Fifaro l'organiste » (The Secret of Fifaro the Organist), is also offered to schools in the region.
