Contemporary art trail in the heart of Chartres
Le Chemin des Arts is a free contemporary art trail connecting three heritage sites in the city center of Chartres: the Saint-Éman chapel dedicated to mosaic, the Saint-Vincent priory open to all forms of artistic expression, and the Saint-André collegiate church for major summer exhibitions. Supported by the City of Chartres, this initiative hosts about ten professional artists per season in an eclectic and accessible approach for everyone.
Le Chemin des Arts is a unique artistic discovery trail located in the heart of Chartres' historic center. Launched by the City of Chartres, it connects three heritage spaces dedicated to contemporary art, each with its own personality, offering visitors a rich and accessible cultural walk throughout the year.
Located at 11 rue Saint-Éman, the Saint-Éman chapel is an intimate and bright space entirely dedicated to contemporary mosaic. Chartres, an ambassador for this art form, hosts three to four exhibitions per year, supported by the association Les 3R, a professional integration association. Invited mosaic artists explore the infinite possibilities of this ancestral medium revisited by contemporary creation.
At 12 rue de la Porte Cendreuse, the Saint-Vincent priory hosts four to five annual exhibitions, giving free rein to all forms of artistic expression: painting, sculpture, photography, street art, installations, and many others. This versatile space allows artists to develop ambitious projects in a remarkable architectural setting.
The Saint-André collegiate church, located at 2 rue Saint-André, serves as a majestic setting for major summer exhibitions. This 11th-century building hosts renowned artists whose works interact with the monumental architecture of the place. Among the artists who have marked past seasons are sculptors, painters, and visual artists recognized on the national and international scene.
The City of Chartres regularly enriches its artistic heritage by acquiring works from the Chemin des Arts exhibitions. Thus, the sculpture "David and Goliath" by Christophe Charbonnel (acquired in 2019) now stands in the Halles square, while "Vibration" by Tetsuo Harada (2018) is exhibited at the l'Apostrophe media library. These acquisitions enrich the municipal art library and allow contemporary art to be permanently integrated into the urban landscape of Chartres.
With free admission, Le Chemin des Arts embodies the city's commitment to making contemporary art accessible to everyone, in a resolutely eclectic, unique, and creative approach.
The 2026 season of Le Chemin des Arts offers a program of renewed exhibitions in the three heritage sites of Chartres. On the program: Éloïse Baro and international mosaic artists at the Saint-Éman chapel, NEP and Eve Malherbe at the Saint-Vincent priory, Jean-Paul Moscovino at the Saint-André collegiate church.
