A centuries-old fair in the heart of Beauce
The Foire Saint-Mathieu de Gallardon perpetuates an ancient commercial and festive tradition, linked to the feast of Saint Matthew celebrated on September 21st. Each year, on the third weekend of September, the small town of Gallardon, dominated by the remains of its famous medieval keep known as the "Shoulder of Gallardon", transforms into a vast open-air market combining crafts, commerce, and medieval entertainment.
120 exhibitors and a medieval camp
No less than 120 exhibitors take over the streets and squares of the town center to offer crafts, local products, gastronomy, and various items. The historic heart of Gallardon is specially dedicated to local producers and the flavors of the Beauce region. A recreated medieval camp immerses visitors in the atmosphere of the Middle Ages with its tents, weapons, costumes, and demonstrations of ancient know-how.
Spectacular street entertainment
Throughout the weekend, numerous interactive events take place in the streets of Gallardon. Musicians, jugglers, jesters, puppeteers, and stilt walkers mingle with the crowd, creating a joyful and festive atmosphere. A traveling farm allows children to discover farm animals. Several medieval companies, including Amalgame, Moriquendi, and Media Tempestas, animate the camp and offer combat shows, ancient music, and storytelling.
A nocturnal pyrotechnic show
The highlight of the fair is undoubtedly the nocturnal pyrotechnic show. In the evening, fire-eaters and jugglers put on a dazzling performance in the illuminated streets of Gallardon, followed by a fireworks display that lights up the sky above the keep. This nocturnal dimension gives the Foire Saint-Mathieu a unique and magical atmosphere that appeals to audiences of all ages.
A unifying event
With around 15,000 visitors over two days, the Foire Saint-Mathieu is one of the largest popular gatherings in the department. It contributes to the tourist appeal of Gallardon and the Beauce region, while promoting the medieval heritage of this town with a rich historical past. On-site catering, with local specialties and medieval cuisine stands, completes the festive experience.
