The current music stage of Massy, an Essonne SMAC since 1994
Paul B is the Current Music Stage (SMAC) in Massy, Essonne. Dedicated to music since 1994 and recognized as an SMAC by the Ministry of Culture in 2011, Paul B is one of the key music venues in the southern Paris region. Located at 6 allée du Québec, Massy, less than a ten-minute walk from the Opéra de Massy, it offers two complementary concert spaces: an intimate 300-seat club and a modular hall that can accommodate up to 550 people.
Paul B's philosophy is summarized in a simple motto: "all music, without taboo or hierarchy." Each season, the venue programs artists from very different backgrounds — jazz, rock, French chanson, rap, soul, blues, world music, electronic, contemporary music — consistently prioritizing "the uniqueness of artistic projects." This aesthetic openness makes Paul B a rare place where the public can go from a contemporary jazz concert to a socially conscious chanson performance within a few days.
Paul B's activity rests on three complementary pillars. The programming of concerts and musical performances is at the heart of the project, with about fifty events per season. Creation is supported by artist residencies that allow musicians to develop their projects under optimal professional conditions. Finally, cultural outreach anchors the venue in its territory through interventions in schools, music practice workshops, and artist encounters.
Created in 1998, the Les Primeurs de Massy festival is Paul B's flagship event. Every autumn (late October-early November), it showcases about twenty musical projects releasing their first album. This initiative to support emerging talent has helped artists who are now household names gain recognition: Clara Luciani, Olivia Ruiz, Pierre de Maere, Zaho de Sagazan have notably been featured at Les Primeurs before their national breakthrough. In 2025, the 28th edition of Les Primeurs took place on October 29, 30, 31, and November 1, 2025.
Paul B's 2025-2026 season offered an exceptionally diverse program. Among the featured artists were: Soviet Suprem, Emily Loizeau, the Kahil El'Zabar Ethnic Heritage Ensemble, the Yaron Herman Quartet, Bachar Mar-Khalifé, Kurt Elling & Charlie Hunter, Ina Forsman, and Lilly Wood and The Prick. Each concert confirmed Paul B's ability to program high-quality artists in a warm, close atmosphere with the audience.
Paul B's 2026-2027 season is currently being programmed. The venue will announce its new concert season in the summer of 2026, with a new edition of Les Primeurs de Massy in October-November 2026. Full program on paul-b.fr.
Supported by the City of Massy, the Departmental Council of Essonne, the Île-de-France Region, and the Ministry of Culture, Paul B is an essential cultural player in Essonne's music policy. Its collaboration with other local structures — Opéra de Massy, Scène nationale de l'Essonne, Le Plan — helps make Essonne a culturally active and attractive department.
The 2026-2027 season of Paul B, Massy's contemporary music venue (SMAC), is confirmed and opens in autumn 2026.
