The great annual popular festival of Montrouge, gateway to Paris
Montrouge (92120) is one of the most dynamic cities in Hauts-de-Seine. A commune bordering the 14th arrondissement of Paris, it concentrates within a relatively small area a dense and cosmopolitan population, an intense associative life, and a particularly rich festive calendar. Each season, the city offers its residents popular and cultural events that make Montrouge one of the most vibrant communes in the department.
On June 21st, Montrouge celebrates the Fête de la Musique with particular intensity. Place Émile Cresp transforms into a large open-air stage from the afternoon, with a succession of free concerts performed by 100% Montrouge artists and blending all musical styles — soul, funk, pop, rock, chanson. In the neighborhoods, associations and neighborhood committees organize their own musical entertainment, transforming the entire city into a shared celebration space. This day is one of the most appreciated by Montrouge residents and attracts a large audience from neighboring communes each year.
From mid-July to the end of August, the Estivales de Montrouge offer a program of free and varied activities for families remaining in the commune. Open-air cinema on Thursday evenings in the parks, summer concerts on Tuesdays at the Jean-Loup Metton park kiosk, Sunday morning sports sessions (zumba, cross training, muscle strengthening) punctuate the weeks of July and August, ensuring continuous entertainment in the city's public spaces.
In early September, the Soleillades de Montrouge mark the back-to-school season with a large, popular, and friendly event. Over two days, the city's squares and spaces come alive for concerts, dance performances, creative workshops, and world cuisine, centered around a theme renewed each year. The Soleillades are also an opportunity for local associations to make themselves known and recruit new members.
Beyond the summer season, Montrouge hosts about fifty events throughout the year: the Salon de Montrouge, a contemporary art exhibition dedicated to young artists founded over 70 years ago and organized every winter at the Beffroi; the Paris Guitar Festival (formerly Guitares en ville), a gathering for luthiers and guitarists at the Beffroi in early spring; as well as numerous neighborhood events. The City of Montrouge organizes and coordinates most of this programming throughout the year.
