Contemporary music festival at Le Plan, Ris-Orangis
LaMano Festival was born from the conviction that culture should be accessible to everyone, regardless of their means or place of residence. Driven by the association Liuban and rooted in the Essonne region, this winter festival has established itself over the past seven years as a must-attend event for contemporary music in the southern suburbs of Paris.
Organized every December at Le Plan—a contemporary music venue (SMAC) accredited by the Ministry of Culture, established in Ris-Orangis in 1984—LaMano Festival benefits from an ideal setting to unfold its program. Le Plan has two complementary rooms (830 and 200 seats), allowing the festival to create varied atmospheres, from large live ensembles to intimate electronic sets.
The unique characteristic of LaMano Festival lies in its ability to host very different artistic formats on the same evening. The main hall hosts live ensembles—bands, solo artists, hybrid orchestras—while the smaller room transforms into a dance floor for carefully selected DJ sets. This duality creates a special festival dynamic, where the audience moves from one stage to another according to their desires, discovering artists they might not have sought out otherwise.
The programming covers a wide musical spectrum: dub, reggae, electronic, hip-hop, contemporary chanson, afrobeat, world music. It features established artists alongside emerging talents, local collectives alongside international figures, in a mix that reflects the richness and diversity of current music scenes.
Among the distinctive features of LaMano Festival, dub and soundsystem culture holds a special place. Some editions have showcased major figures from the international dub scene, such as King Earthquake, a pillar of British dub since 1977, surrounded by the best of the new French dub scene: Bass Trooperz, Bisou, Art-X, and Sumac Dub. The in-house soundsystems of Snow Dub System and Dub Effect Soundsystem complete this setup, offering rare sound quality.
This focus confirms the festival's commitment to militant and community-based musical cultures, those that have forged their identity far from commercial circuits and large venues.
LaMano Festival is not just a music festival; it's also a space for meeting and engagement. Each edition hosts an associative village bringing together structures from the social and solidarity economy, local ecological initiatives, and cultural associations from the region. The festival's scenography is deliberately based on recycling and upcycling, demonstrating a sincere commitment to more responsible event organization.
A chill zone allows festival-goers to relax between concerts, while graffiti and urban art workshops animate the spaces between the rooms. The catering, provided by local and committed providers, completes this overall festival-village approach.
True to its commitment to cultural democratization, LaMano Festival offers deliberately accessible prices. The festival aims to reach an audience that might not necessarily attend major Parisian venues, particularly young people from the Essonne region and the southern suburbs. This pricing policy is made possible by the support of local authorities, partner cultural organizations, and the city of Ris-Orangis.
The festival takes place at Le Plan, SMAC of Ris-Orangis, located at 1 rue Louis Aragon, 91130 Ris-Orangis.
