Les Musicales du Parc des Oiseaux: where music meets nature

Born in 2010, the Les Musicales du Parc des Oiseaux festival has become in just a few years one of the must-attend musical events in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. Set in the heart of the Parc des Oiseaux at Villars-les-Dombes, one of Europe's largest ornithological parks, the festival offers an original and appealing formula: quality concerts in a haven of preserved nature, just thirty minutes from Lyon.

An exceptional natural setting

The Parc des Oiseaux covers 35 hectares in the heart of the Dombes, a region of a thousand ponds. The festival takes place outdoors, in a purpose-built performance area within the park, offering a unique atmosphere where music mingles with birdsong and the beauty of the landscape. The concept's originality lies in the fact that every concert ticket includes full-day access to the park, allowing festivalgoers to explore the ornithological collections before enjoying the evening show.

A quality mainstream programme

The Musicales programme focuses on French chanson, pop and popular artists from the French music scene. Each edition offers around fifteen concerts spread over three weeks, from late August to mid-September. Over the years, the festival has welcomed top-tier artists: Francis Cabrel, Patrick Bruel, Alain Souchon, Marc Lavoine, Barbara Pravi, MC Solaar, Pascal Obispo, Eddy de Pretto, Patrick Fiori and many more.

The diversity of the line-up — from singer-songwriters to rap, French rock and comedy — enables the festival to appeal to a broad, multi-generational audience. Each evening is an event in its own right, with a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.

A unique experience combining music and ornithology

What sets Les Musicales du Parc des Oiseaux apart from other festivals is this synergy between music and nature. Festivalgoers arrive in the early afternoon to explore the aviaries, immersive exhibits and animal shows in the park, before gathering for the evening concert. This formula appeals to families and music lovers alike, creating a cultural and recreational experience that is unique in France.

A festival rooted in the Dombes

Les Musicales contribute to the tourist and cultural appeal of the Dombes and the Ain department. The festival attracts around 25,000 spectators each year, generating significant economic benefits for the area. Organised by the Parc des Oiseaux itself, the event benefits from well-honed logistics and recognised expertise in welcoming the public.

Practical information

The festival takes place every year from late August to mid-September, with evening concerts (usually at 8:30pm). The Parc des Oiseaux is easily accessible from Lyon (A46 then A42, exit Villars-les-Dombes), Bourg-en-Bresse and Mâcon. Free parking is available for festivalgoers.
