The free meeting place for street arts in the heart of Le Mans summer
Les Soirs d'Été is Le Mans' major summer event dedicated to street arts and live performance in the open air. Every Thursday and Friday in July and August, the city transforms into an open-air stage with free performances of street theater, circus, dance, music, and comedy. For over thirty years, this popular festival has enlivened the squares, parks, and gardens of Le Mans, captivating family audiences with the diversity and quality of its artistic programming.
Created in 1995, the Les Soirs d'Été festival has become, over the decades, one of the most popular cultural events in the city of Le Mans. For nearly two months, from mid-July to the end of August, Thursdays and Fridays evenings transform into free open-air celebrations in the city's various districts. It's a true tour of the Plantagenet city through street arts.
The Soirs d'Été program encompasses the entire spectrum of outdoor live performance. Street theater, contemporary circus, juggling, dance, strolling brass bands, comedy, and concerts follow one another in a festive and relaxed atmosphere. Performances begin at 6:30 PM and continue into the evening, allowing families and night owls alike to enjoy the event. Regional, national, and international companies present original creations, often interactive and always surprising.
The originality of Les Soirs d'Été lies in its itinerant nature within the city itself. Each evening takes over a different location: the Place de la République, parks and gardens, esplanades in peripheral districts, or the narrow streets of the historic city. This itinerancy allows spectators to rediscover their city from an artistic perspective and fosters connections between neighborhoods. The festival thus contributes to the summer animation of Le Mans and the cultural influence of the Sarthe capital.
Organized by the City of Le Mans, Les Soirs d'Été is entirely free and open access. This free access, maintained since the festival's inception, makes it a truly popular event, open to all audiences aged 6 and up. The friendly atmosphere, the diversity of artistic offerings, and the beauty of the venues used make each evening a moment of sharing and discovery, in the gentle Le Mans summer evenings.
