Write, shoot, and edit a film in 48 hours flat
Since 2007, the Marathon Vidéo 48H has set Strasbourg alight with creativity for a weekend. Forty teams compete in a unique challenge: write, shoot, and edit a short film of 3 minutes maximum in just 48 hours, on a given theme revealed at the start. The films are screened in front of over 500 spectators at UGC Ciné Cité and submitted to the vote of the public and a professional jury. Organized by the association LabFilms, it is the largest video marathon in the Grand Est region.
The Marathon Vidéo 48H de Strasbourg is a unique event in the audiovisual landscape of the Grand Est region. Since its creation in 2007, this film directing competition pits about forty teams against each other, giving them 48 hours chrono – from Friday evening to Sunday – to write, shoot, and edit a short film of 3 minutes maximum on a given theme.
The principle is as simple as it is formidable: on Friday evening, the teams discover the imposed theme and the constraints of the edition (an object to include, a word to say, a place to film...). Then begins a frantic race against time where they must conceive a script, scout filming locations, direct actors, shoot, and edit the film before the Sunday deadline. Amateurs, film students, and semi-professionals mingle in an intense creative emulation.
The highlight of the marathon is the public screening at the UGC Ciné Cité de Strasbourg, which brings together over 500 enthusiastic spectators on Sunday evening. The films are submitted to the public vote and evaluated by a jury of film professionals. Winners are awarded in several categories, crowning the best scripts, the most beautiful directing, and the most creative performances.
Since 2021, the Marathon Vidéo 48H has been supported by the association LabFilms, which works to facilitate, develop, promote, and professionalize self-produced, amateur, and emerging audiovisual and film creation. The association took over from La Cité de la Prod, which had organized the event since its inception, perpetuating the friendly and competitive spirit of the marathon.
Over its 19 editions, the Marathon Vidéo 48H has become a truly unifying event for the Strasbourg audiovisual community. Each year, it reveals new talents, creates vocations, and builds connections between independent film players in Alsace.
