The European comic strip festival in Strasbourg
Created in 2008 by the Alsace Bande Dessinée association, Strasbulles is the festival dedicated to the 9th art in Strasbourg. Every year in June, the squares and streets of the city center host exhibitions, signing sessions, workshops, conferences, and events centered around European comic strips. The festival highlights the diversity of contemporary comic creation – committed comics, new graphic trends, fanzines – while annually inviting a European country to be featured.
Born in 2008 from the initiative of enthusiasts gathered within the Alsace Bande Dessinée association (ABD, founded in 2007), Strasbulles filled a gap identified by its founders: unlike other major French cities, Strasbourg lacked a large-scale event dedicated to comic strips. The festival quickly found its place in Strasbourg's cultural landscape and has become a must-attend event for comic strip lovers in Alsace and beyond.
True to Strasbourg's European vocation, Strasbulles annually features a European country in focus, offering a spotlight on its national comic strip scene through exhibitions, conferences, and author invitations. The festival's cross-border dimension is reflected in the regular presence of publishers and artists from Germany, Switzerland, Belgium, Spain, and other European countries.
The festival offers a dense program structured around several key areas:
The ABD association's activities extend beyond the festival: throughout the year, it conducts interventions in schools, offering comic strip workshops in classrooms, lasting from 3 to 20 hours, allowing students to learn the techniques of narrative drawing. This educational action places Strasbulles within a framework of transmission and democratization of the 9th art.
The festival is free and open to all, true to its mission of making comic strips accessible to the widest possible audience.
Strasbulles returns in June 2026 to the center of Strasbourg for a new edition of the European comic strip festival, featuring exhibitions, signings, workshops, and events.
