Forty chalets from artisans and creators at the foot of the Canebière for the end-of-year holidays
The Marseille Christmas Market is the big festive event of the Marseille year-end. Located in the pedestrian area at the bottom of the Canebière, it hosts around forty chalets from artisans and creators each winter, offering soaps, cosmetics, jewelry, candles, decorations, and delicacies. Open from late November to early January, it is part of the "Magical Marseille Christmas" festivities organized by the City of Marseille.
The Marseille Christmas Market sets up shop every year in the pedestrian area at the bottom of the Canebière, between Rue Beauveau and Cours Saint-Louis, a stone's throw from the Vieux-Port. For over six weeks, from late November to early January, about forty wooden chalets host artisans and creators who offer their products to visitors looking for original gifts and local specialties.
The Christmas Market chalets showcase local craftsmanship and original creations. You can find Marseille soaps and natural cosmetics, handmade jewelry and accessories, floral arrangements, artisanal candles, decorative items, and textile creations. The culinary aspect is not forgotten, with stands offering biscuits, confectionery, nougat, calissons, and other Provençal sweets. Visitors can also warm up with mulled wine or hot chocolate while strolling through the illuminated aisles.
The Christmas Market is part of the broader "Magical Marseille Christmas" program, the festive schedule of the City of Marseille for the end-of-year holidays. The Canebière and adjacent streets are adorned with spectacular light decorations, creating a magical atmosphere that attracts thousands of visitors every evening. Activities are regularly organized in and around the market: workshops for children, concerts, street performances, and meetings with Santa Claus. The Ferris wheel installed on the Vieux-Port completes this festive picture.
Complementing the Foire aux Santons (Nativity Scene Fair) held simultaneously on the Quai du Port, the Marseille Christmas Market is one of the two pillars of Marseille's winter festivities. Its location at the bottom of the Canebière, an emblematic avenue of the city, makes it an essential stop for both Marseillais and tourists. The market is open every day, with extended hours on Fridays and Saturdays, offering the opportunity to enjoy the illuminated market's nighttime atmosphere.
