The summer night markets of La Lanterne in Rochecorbon
The Rochecorbon Night Markets, known as 'Marchés de La Lanterne', are held on several Saturdays during the summer, from 5 PM to 11 PM, on the Place de l'Observatoire. This wine-growing village on the banks of the Loire, renowned for its troglodytic cellars and Vouvray wines, hosts local artisans, creators, and producers for festive evenings punctuated by concerts. Leather goods, cutlery, artisanal creations, and local produce make up a friendly and family-oriented market. Free entry.
Rochecorbon, a charming wine-growing village nestled on the limestone hillsides of the Loire, a few kilometers east of Tours, organizes its La Lanterne Night Markets during the summer. These summer evenings take place on the Place de l'Observatoire, a friendly space offering a panorama of the Loire Valley and the vineyards of the Vouvray appellation.
Rochecorbon is famous for its troglodytic cellars carved into the tuffeau stone, the characteristic white stone of Touraine. For centuries, these cellars have been used for aging wines from Vouvray, one of the most prestigious appellations in the Loire Valley. The night market is part of this unique heritage, offering visitors the opportunity to discover this exceptional terroir.
The market brings together quality artisans offering original creations and handmade products: artisanal leather goods, cutlery, jewelry, ceramics, textiles, turned wood, illustrations, and other crafts. These passionate artisans present unique pieces, made with respect for traditional know-how.
Local producers are present with the treasures of the Touraine region: goat cheeses, rillettes, rillons, honey, jams, artisanal pastries, and, of course, Vouvray wines (dry, medium-dry, mellow, and sparkling) offered by winemakers from the village and surrounding areas. Wine tasting accompanied by local products is one of the unmissable pleasures of these evenings.
Each market evening is enlivened by an open-air concert, offering a varied musical program. Local and regional bands perform in the warm atmosphere of the Place de l'Observatoire, adding a festive and cultural dimension to this gourmet nocturnal stroll.
From 5 PM to 11 PM, visitors can stroll among the stalls, taste local products, enjoy the concert, and soak up the gentle Loire summer evenings. Entry is free, making these night markets an accessible and family-friendly event, appreciated by both locals and tourists visiting the Loire Valley.
