The 8 May 2026 long weekend in Correze will not feel like anywhere else. No big music festival on the bill, but three events typical of the departement, each telling its own version of what spring looks like in this corner of Nouvelle-Aquitaine: Limousin cattle farming, the Dordogne river and the strawberries of the southern Correze. Three settings, three audiences, three towns β enough to build a weekend off the beaten track.
Lubersac prize cattle fair β Saturday 9 May
The first stop of the weekend takes place in the heart of the Limousin country. The Lubersac prize cattle fair is held on Saturday 9 May and brings together breeders from Correze, Dordogne and Haute-Vienne around a competition of veal calves raised under the mother cow and Limousin breed cattle. The Groupe Altitude cooperative and local agricultural co-ops run the event, with judging by a professional jury.
Entry is free and curious visitors are as welcome as the professionals. It is a good way to step inside an industry that built much of the region's culinary reputation, and to chat with the breeders who present their finest animals. See the festival page.
Who is it for?
Mostly for fans of rural traditions, families who want to show children what a livestock competition looks like, and visitors who like adding an authentic stop to their weekend. The fair fits nicely into a morning before heading down to the Dordogne valley.
La Dordogne Integrale β Saturday 9 May, Argentat-sur-Dordogne
A complete change of mood the same day, further south. La Dordogne Integrale is an extreme canoe-kayak and stand-up paddle race, run since 2006 over 127 kilometres of river between Argentat-sur-Dordogne and Castelnaud-la-Chapelle. One single day, three departements crossed β Correze, Lot, Dordogne β and hundreds of amateur and seasoned paddlers at the start line.
For visitors, the experience plays out on land, around the exhibitors' village set up in Argentat. Concerts, a producers' market and water-side activities punctuate the day, alongside side races β a half-marathon and a touring rally. Access to the village and the side activities is free; only the race entries are paid (20 to 60 euros). See the festival page.
A local tip
Settle on the Argentat quays early in the morning to watch the first boats push off. The spring light on the Dordogne is worth the trip on its own, race or no race.
