Aux Sons de l'Eau: when the river becomes a stage
Created in 2023, the Aux Sons de l'Eau festival was born from a singular ambition: to celebrate the transformation of the Reyssouze and its tributaries in Bourg-en-Bresse, following major ecological restoration work carried out by the river basin authority. This multidisciplinary, free festival turns the riverbanks, parks and squares of the city into ephemeral stages where aerial circus, world music, puppetry, dance and visual arts come together.
A project driven by three major cultural partners
The festival is the result of a close collaboration between three complementary organisations: the Reyssouze et Affluents water authority, which champions the environmental dimension and the enhancement of the restored waterways; the Scène nationale de Bourg-en-Bresse, which contributes its expertise in artistic programming and its ability to attract top-tier companies; and MJC Pop Corn, rooted in the local community, which ensures the participatory and intergenerational dimension of the event.
A rich and accessible programme
Over three days in July, Aux Sons de l'Eau offers a varied programme designed for all audiences, including the very young. Performances take place in public spaces along the Reyssouze: the Croix-Blanche gymnasium, the forecourt of the Maison de la Culture et de la Citoyenneté, and the surrounding riverbanks and parks. Guest companies explore the themes of water, nature and living things through diverse artistic forms.
The 2025 edition, entitled Aux Sons de l'Eau #2, notably featured the family acrobatic circus show Vent d'Ouest by Compagnie Les P'tits Bras, the aerial show Clan Cabane with five acrobats, as well as world-electro music concerts, participatory workshops and the interactive exhibition FLOW at the Maison de la Culture.
A popular and eco-responsible celebration
True to its founders' spirit, Aux Sons de l'Eau is an entirely free festival, open to all, where conviviality abounds thanks to food trucks and refreshment stands. The event embraces an eco-responsible approach, showcasing the restored biodiversity of the waterways and raising awareness among residents about preserving their natural heritage. Riverside performances offer a unique immersive experience, where the murmur of water blends with music and the feats of the artists.
