The Saint-Vincent-de-Paul Society of the Ardennes hosts a three-day second-hand book sale from Friday to Sunday at the Salle Nevers in Charleville-Mézières. You will find novels, comics, children's books, textbooks, encyclopedias, regional Ardennes publications, rare books, and antique editions, with prices ranging from ten cents to a few euros. As of mid-August 2026, the Société de Saint-Vincent-de-Paul des Ardennes has not yet announced the dates for its book fair. The dates currently displayed on this page, October 23rd to 25th, 2026, are not based on any official announcement; they are simply projections based on the previous year's schedule. The two most recent editions were held at the salle Nevers, from October 25th to 27th, 2024, and from October 24th to 26th, 2025, for the 20th anniversary edition.
2026 Edition
As of mid-August 2026, no dates have been published for the Société de Saint-Vincent-de-Paul des Ardennes book fair. Neither the official calendar for the City of Charleville-Mézières, which is updated through March 2027, nor the Ardennes Tourisme agenda currently list the event. Consequently, the dates of October 23rd to 25th, 2026, shown here remain unconfirmed.
Announcements for this event typically arrive late: in both 2024 and 2025, the municipal magazine Carolo Mag published the details in its October issue, released on October 3rd—just three weeks before the sale.
The last two editions
In 2024, the fair was held at the salle Nevers from Friday, October 25th to Sunday, October 27th, with hours from 1:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Friday, 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM on Saturday, and 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM on Sunday. The 20th edition took place in 2025 from Friday, October 24th to Sunday, October 26th, following the same schedule, with free admission at place Nevers.
Important distinction
Please note that another book fair will take place at the salle Nevers from April 10th to 12th, 2026. This event is organized by SOS Amitié Ardennes to support their listening service and is entirely separate from the Société de Saint-Vincent-de-Paul fair.

A book sale supporting those in need
The Saint-Vincent-de-Paul Society has been active in France since 1830 and in Charleville-Mézières since the 1850s. Four local branches bring together around sixty volunteers in the Ardennes; in Charleville-Mézières, they operate a clothing sale and collect books to fund their charitable work. The book fair is the culmination of this year-round effort, as volunteers receive and sort through thousands of books to offer to the public. In 2019, 20,000 books were put up for sale. In 2025, the fair celebrates its 20th edition.

The selection covers every genre: novels, comics, children's books, school and university textbooks, encyclopedias, art books, local Ardennes publications, prestige editions, and antique books. Prices range from ten cents to a few euros.
Where the money goes
Proceeds from the fair make up 85% of the Ardennes Saint-Vincent-de-Paul Society's budget, with the remainder coming from donations. These funds support bi-monthly food distributions, help cover essential bills for those they assist, and provide for home visits and emergency financial aid.
Three days, from Friday to Sunday
The fair opens on Friday afternoon and runs throughout the weekend. The schedule remains consistent for 2024 and 2025: Friday from 1:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Saturday from 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM, and Sunday from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. The event was held in November until at least 2019 (November 10-12, 2017; November 8-10, 2019), before moving to late October (October 25-27, 2024; October 24-26, 2025).
The Salle Nevers
The Salle Nevers is located at Place Nevers in Charleville-Mézières, the same square that hosts the city's covered market. In 2025, the entrance is located on Place Nevers; in 2017, it was accessed via Rue de Vaudidon.
