Saint-Gratien, the lakeside town in Christmas attire
Saint-Gratien is a residential town in Val-d'Oise located between the Montmorency Valley and the shores of Lake Enghien. Bordering Enghien-les-Bains and sharing its proximity to the lake, it benefits from a green living environment and a privileged geographical location less than 20 kilometers from Paris. In December, the town celebrates to offer its residents a quality artisanal Christmas market, an eagerly awaited event for all Saint-Gratien families.
The artisanal Christmas market
The Saint-Gratien Christmas market brings together creator artisans, local producers, and specialized merchants in beautifully decorated chalets. The artisanal offerings are varied and original: designer jewelry — handcrafted rings, necklaces, and bracelets —, decorative objects — sculpted candles, paper lamps, mobiles, and artisanal garlands —, paintings and prints by local artists, textiles and accessories — dyed and printed scarves, hand-knitted hats. Val-d'Oise producers bring their gourmet specialties: wild flower honeys, seasonal jams, fine chocolates, artisanal gingerbread and cookies, fine foods, and products from the Île-de-France region.
Advent by the lake
The proximity of Lake Enghien, whose banks are accessible on foot from the center of Saint-Gratien, gives the town's Christmas market a special atmosphere. Evening strolls along the illuminated lake shores — shared with the neighboring town of Enghien-les-Bains — offer panoramas of poetic beauty in December, when the festive lights reflect in the calm waters of the only natural lake in Île-de-France. This lakeside walk is a natural and pleasant extension of the market visit.
Entertainment and festive program
The entertainment program for the Saint-Gratien market combines conviviality and cultural discovery. Christmas concerts — local choirs, chamber music ensembles, world music groups — punctuate the market days with quality musical moments. Creative workshops for children allow them to make original Christmas ornaments to give as gifts or keep as festive souvenirs. Santa Claus, present throughout the weekend, welcomes children for photos and wishes. The entire entertainment program is accessible to everyone for free.
Between forest and lake
Saint-Gratien occupies an exceptional geographical position between two remarkable natural environments: the Montmorency Forest to the north and Lake Enghien to the south. In December, these two natural spaces don their winter attire, offering walkers landscapes of particular serenity. The forest, with its paths covered in fallen leaves and its trees with bare silhouettes, invites meditative hikes. The lake, with its silvery surface shimmering under the low winter sun, inspires poetic contemplation. These natural riches make Saint-Gratien an exceptional setting for celebrating Christmas.
