The hip-hop encounters of Le Mans celebrating urban culture
Connexions Festival is the major hip-hop event in Le Mans and Allonnes, co-directed by Superforma and MJC Ronceray. For four days in April, the festival celebrates hip-hop culture in all its disciplines: rap, breakdance, graffiti, DJing, and beatbox. Concerts, professional battles, film screenings, conferences, open mics, and workshops follow one another in a committed program that mixes established artists and the emerging local scene, for enthusiasts and the curious alike.
Born from the initiative of MJC Ronceray, FRMJC, and MPT Jean-Moulin, Connexions Festival has become, over the editions, the unmissable event for hip-hop culture in Sarthe. Today co-directed by Superforma and MJC Ronceray, the festival unfolds over four days between Le Mans and Allonnes, taking over concert halls, cinemas, and cultural spaces for a total immersion in urban cultures.
Connexions Festival embraces all the founding disciplines of hip-hop. Rap concerts form the beating heart of the program, featuring national headliners and emerging artists from the local scene. The breakdance battles, notably the legendary LO Spring Break organized by Legiteam Obstruxion, attract teams from all over Europe: Italy, Belgium, Spain, Germany, and France compete in spectacular showdowns.
Beyond the music stage, Connexions Festival fosters reflection on urban cultures. Documentary screenings, such as Chauber on the history of breakdance, are followed by discussions with the directors. Conferences explore the history of hip-hop and its contemporary ramifications, while open mics provide a platform for emerging rappers from the Le Mans scene. The festival also offers interactive performances blending live improvisation and audience participation.
Connexions Festival is distinguished by its roots in the neighborhoods of Le Mans and Allonnes. Events are spread across the Salle Jean Carmet in Allonnes, L'Alambik (MJC Ronceray), Cinéma Le Royal, MPT Jean Moulin, and Blue Zinc in Le Mans. This multiple geography reflects the festival's commitment to bringing hip-hop culture closer to the residents, highlighting the work carried out throughout the year in schools and neighborhood structures.
Connexions Festival is expected to return in April 2026 for a new hip-hop edition between Le Mans and Allonnes. Concerts, battles, screenings, and workshops around urban cultures.
