The Catalan fire run through the streets of Céret
The Correfoc (literally "fire run" in Catalan) is one of the most spectacular manifestations of Catalan culture. In Céret, this ancestral tradition comes to life every year in the streets of the city center, offering a captivating spectacle of fire, music, and dance.
The origins of the Correfoc date back to the "ball de diables" (dance of the devils), documented as early as the 12th century in Catalonia. This popular tradition mixes the sacred and the profane, with groups of "devils" dressed in red and black parading through the streets to the sound of drums, brandishing fireworks and pyrotechnic devices.
The Correfoc starts from the Place de la République. The "Diables del Ribéral" from the association "Aire Nou de Bao" animate the parade, creating a unique atmosphere mixing flames, sparks, and frenetic rhythms. Spectators are invited to participate by protecting themselves with covering clothing.
The evening continues with a convivial moment around the crémat, a hot Catalan drink made from wine, coffee, sugar, and cinnamon, prepared by volunteers from the Escola de Català de Céret.
Departure from Place de la République in Céret, in the evening (usually 7 PM). The parade goes through the historic city center.
Céret is accessible via the A9 motorway (Le Boulou exit), then the D115.
