The essential literary event in northern Nièvre
Organized since 1988 by the association Trait d'Union 58, the Cosne-sur-Loire Book Fair is one of the oldest literary fairs in Burgundy. Every year at the end of May or beginning of June, more than twenty authors—novelists, essayists, comic strip authors, poets, and children's writers—gather in the town hall square for meetings, signing sessions, and passionate exchanges with the public. Free and open to all, this friendly fair celebrates the diversity of literary creation.
The Cosne-sur-Loire Book Fair was born in 1988 from the desire of the association Trait d'Union 58 to create a quality literary event in northern Nièvre. For over thirty-five years, this annual gathering has brought together established authors and emerging talents united by a shared love of books and reading. The 37th edition, held in 2025, testifies to the vitality and longevity of this event, which has become a must-attend in the Burgundian cultural landscape.
The fair spans two to three days, usually the last weekend of May or the first of June, on the Place du Docteur Jacques Huyghues des Étages, in the heart of the town. About twenty authors of various genres—novels, thrillers, science fiction, comic strips, essays, poetry, children's literature—are invited to meet the public, sign their books, and participate in themed round tables.
Literary encounters, public readings, and writing workshops complete the program, offering visitors a full immersion into the world of books. Regional publishers and local booksellers are also present, contributing to the richness of the exchanges and the discovery of new voices.
True to its philosophy of accessibility, the Cosne Book Fair is entirely free. The warm atmosphere that prevails among the stands, under the marquees set up in the square, fosters direct encounters between authors and readers. It is this proximity that is the fair's strength and gives it a unique atmosphere, far from the large Parisian fairs.
Beyond the weekend of the fair, the association Trait d'Union 58 works year-round to promote reading and literature in Nièvre, through partnerships with libraries, schools, and local bookstores. The fair is the highlight of this local cultural action, contributing to the influence of Cosne-Cours-sur-Loire as a town of culture and encounters.
The 38th edition of the Cosne Book Fair will be held at the end of May 2026. Around twenty authors will once again gather in the town hall square for meetings and book signings.
The Cosne Book Fair returns for its 38th edition at the end of May 2026. The list of invited authors and the detailed program will be announced in the spring of 2026 on the website of the association Trait d'Union 58.
