Each year, the city of Évry-Courcouronnes, prefecture of the Essonne department, celebrates July 14th with a rich festive program that blends republican solemnity and popular conviviality. These festivities bring together thousands of inhabitants each year to enjoy one of the most beautiful fireworks displays in the southern Île-de-France region.

The Program of Festivities

The celebrations traditionally extend over two days, July 13th and 14th, offering all the residents of Évry and Courcouronnes a multitude of opportunities to gather. The day of July 13th begins with the firefighters' ball, organized from 7 PM at Square Jean-Paul II. This popular and festive national tradition allows residents to dance and celebrate in a friendly atmosphere to the sound of orchestras.

On July 14th, the official ceremony begins in the afternoon with a republican parade on Boulevard des Coquibus. At 5 PM, a ceremony in the presence of elected officials and authorities recalls the historical and symbolic significance of the date. In the evening, the grand fireworks display illuminates the prefecture's sky, visible from many neighborhoods in the city and surrounding towns.

Évry-Courcouronnes, Prefecture City of Essonne

Founded as a new town in the 1960s-1970s, Évry was designed to embody modern French urbanism. In 2019, it merged with Courcouronnes to form Évry-Courcouronnes, the largest city in Essonne with over 70,000 inhabitants. The city is home to the Cathedral of the Resurrection, the only cathedral built in France in the 20th century, as well as the University of Évry and numerous cultural facilities.

July 14th takes on a special dimension here: as the prefecture, the official celebrations bring together state representatives, security forces, and constituted bodies, giving the festivities a character that is both solemn and popular. Residents from the Grand Paris Sud municipalities converge on the city to witness the pyrotechnic show.

Fireworks in the Republican Tradition

The Évry-Courcouronnes fireworks display is launched in the evening and visible from several sites in the city. The pyrotechnic show, carefully organized by municipal services, generally lasts about fifteen minutes and is sometimes synchronized with a musical soundtrack. The event attracts spectators from all over the Grand Paris Sud agglomeration.

The National Day is also an opportunity for local associations, firefighters, veterans' associations, and sports clubs to gather and contribute to the entertainment. Refreshment stands, stalls, and activities are traditionally present to complete the evening and allow everyone to extend the celebration in good spirits.

Since the creation of Évry as a new town, the National Day has always been a must-attend event on the municipal calendar. Over the decades, the festivities have been enriched and have grown in scale, reflecting the city's growth and dynamism.
