Documentary cinema comes to your home
Döc chez l'Habitant revolutionizes the concept of a film festival by turning every living room into a screening venue. Born from the passion of documentary enthusiasts united within the ADCHA association, based in Pont-de-Larn in the Tarn region, this festival offers a radically decentralized model: instead of gathering the audience in a theater, the films come to the viewer.
The principle is simple and poetic. Each year, a selection committee chooses five author-driven documentary films from the best recent releases or award-winning films from other festivals. The 'döckeurs' – volunteer individuals – obtain the screening rights for these five films and organize the festival in their homes for three days. They invite friends, neighbors, family, and colleagues to share a cinematic moment in the intimacy of a living room, followed by a discussion with the director via videoconference.
Beyond cinema, Döc chez l'Habitant is a social connection project. Opening one's door, welcoming neighbors one doesn't always know, sharing a film followed by drinks and discussion: the festival creates human connections around culture. The ADCHA association supports the 'döckeurs' in organizing, from technical logistics to exchanges with filmmakers. The membership fee is intentionally modest – 5 euros – to ensure everyone can participate.
Outside the annual February festival, ADCHA offers monthly screenings throughout the year, allowing 'döckeurs' to continue their exploration of author-driven documentaries. These regular gatherings maintain a community of engaged, curious cinephiles passionate about the documentary perspective on the world.
While the association was founded and remains based in Pont-de-Larn, at the foot of the Montagne Noire in the Tarn region, the festival's influence extends far beyond the department's borders. 'Döckeurs' organize screenings across France, making Döc chez l'Habitant an original decentralized cultural network, driven by the values of sharing and accessibility.
The 7th edition of Döc chez l'Habitant is scheduled for February 7 and 8, 2026. 'Döckeurs' from across France are invited to host the festival in their homes and screen the five documentaries selected by the ADCHA committee. A special event will also be held at the Avant-Scène 81 residence in Pont-de-Larn, the birthplace of the association. Exchanges with filmmakers via videoconference, passionate discussions, and conviviality will be the hallmarks of this new edition.
Döc chez l'Habitant is a decentralized festival: screenings take place simultaneously in private homes ('döckeurs') across France. To participate, simply become a member of the association (5 euros) and contact a 'döckeur' near you, or become a 'döckeur' yourself.
The ADCHA association is based in Pont-de-Larn (81660), in the Tarn region.
The festival takes place annually in February, over three days (usually a Friday, Saturday, and Sunday).
Association membership: 5 euros. Screenings are free, with voluntary donations collected to cover film distribution rights.
