About Écrans Mixtes

Created in 2011, the Écrans Mixtes Festival is the unmissable event for LGBTQI+ cinema in Lyon and the Lyon metropolitan area. For ten days in March, nearly a hundred works—feature films, short films, documentaries, and fiction—are screened in about thirty venues. The festival fights discrimination through cinema and also offers conferences, masterclasses, exhibitions, concerts, and parties to celebrate the diversity of queer narratives.

Écrans Mixtes Festival: Queer Cinema Takes Over Lyon

Since 2011, the Écrans Mixtes Festival has established itself as one of the most important LGBTQI+ film festivals in Europe. Born from a 1901 law association founded in 2007 as a monthly film club centered around LGBTQI+ themes, the idea emerged to transform these regular meetings into a true annual festival, which was then absent from the Lyon cultural scene.

Every March, the festival unfolds an ambitious program across thirty venues in the Lyon metropolitan area—cinemas, theaters, museums, galleries, and community spaces. The Cinéma Comœdia, a historic partner, hosts the opening and closing screenings as well as a large part of the program.

A Rich and Engaged Program

The Écrans Mixtes Festival presents nearly a hundred works from around the world each year: international feature film competition, short film competition, retrospectives of major filmmakers, previews, and special screenings. The festival is not limited to screenings: conferences, masterclasses, exhibitions, concerts, and festive evenings punctuate the program, creating a true artistic journey that questions equality, identities, and representations.

A Commitment Against Discrimination

Beyond celebrating cinema, Écrans Mixtes holds a strong commitment against discrimination towards LGBTQI+ people and women. The festival uses cinema as a unifying medium, encouraging reflection and the discovery of other forms of artistic expression. Debates, meetings with directors, and round tables complement each screening to foster dialogue and exchange.

European Reach

With its 95 screenings spread across 30 venues, the Écrans Mixtes Festival is among the most important queer film festivals in Europe. Each edition highlights cinematographies rarely shown in France, with films representing over 30 countries. The festival thus contributes to the visibility of queer narratives on the big screen and the dissemination of demanding, engaged cinema that is open to the world.

Écrans Mixtes — edition 2026

Under the theme "Shards of Identities," this edition resonates with queer narratives in all their political and sensitive diversity, with a hundred screenings in thirty venues and a rare focus on the Balkans.

16th Edition — Shards of Identities

The Écrans Mixtes Festival returns for its 16th edition from March 4 to 12, 2026, in Lyon and its metropolitan area. Under the theme of "Shards of Identities", this edition resonates with queer narratives in all their political and sensitive diversity.

The program features a hundred screenings and previews in thirty venues. A rare focus on the Balkans, exclusively by female directors, highlights a generation of filmmakers working with the memory of a region marked by war and the persistence of patriarchy. 31 countries are represented, including several never programmed at the festival before.
