Un poing c'est court: The Francophone Short Film Festival of Vaulx-en-Velin

Un poing c'est court is the Francophone short film festival in Vaulx-en-Velin, in the Lyon metropolitan area. Created in 2001 by an informal collective of associative and socio-cultural organizations in the town, it has become over the years one of the most important short film festivals in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region.

A Committed and Civic Festival

Since 2008, the festival has been supported by a dedicated association that has given it a new dimension, with a resolutely civic and committed approach. The themes addressed by the selected films reflect strong values: commitment, equality, the fight against discrimination, cultural diversity, and openness to the world. All genres are accepted – fiction, animation, documentary – with a maximum duration of 30 minutes per film.

The Francophonie at the Heart of the Festival

The festival celebrates the Francophonie in all its forms. Each edition features a Francophone country in focus through a special evening, "carte blanche" events for filmmakers, and meetings with film crews. From Cambodia to Senegal, from Belgium to Quebec, Un poing c'est court offers a rich and vibrant panorama of French-language cinematic creation across five continents.

A Rich and Accessible Program

The program is structured around several highlights: the opening night with a "carte blanche" for an invited filmmaker, the competition screenings, the Francophonie Night, the Animation Night, the Courts au Sud (Shorts from the South) screenings, and the closing night with an awards ceremony. The festival also offers a legendary Nuit du Court (Night of the Short Film), from Friday evening to Saturday morning, for the most dedicated cinephiles.

An Exemplary Educational Component

Un poing c'est court places a major emphasis on film education. Each year, over 3,000 students of all levels participate in school screenings specially designed to raise their awareness of cinematic language. Critical writing workshops allow young viewers to develop their perspective and analytical skills.

A Festival Rooted in its Territory

The festival takes place at the Les Amphis cinema, an art-house cinema in Vaulx-en-Velin, which welcomes about fifty different nationalities among its audience. This cultural diversity is the richness and originality of Un poing c'est court, a true reflection of the Vaulx-en-Velin mosaic and its openness to the world.

Un poing c'est court — edition 2026

The 26th edition of Un poing c'est court will be held from January 19 to 25, 2026, at the Les Amphis cinema in Vaulx-en-Velin. The festival will continue its mission of promoting Francophone short films with a new country in focus, competition screenings, film education workshops, and the traditional Nuit du Court.

Un poing c'est court 2026 - 26th Edition

The Un poing c'est court festival returns to the Les Amphis cinema in Vaulx-en-Velin from January 19 to 25, 2026, for its 26th edition. An entire week dedicated to Francophone short films, with movies from across the five continents.
