Tasting wines from all French regions and gastronomy in the heart of the Kaefferkopf vineyard
Organized every year in March by the Confrérie des Amis d'Ammerschwihr et du Kaefferkopf, the Ammerschwihr Wine and Gastronomy Fair brings together over twenty exhibitors from the main French and international wine regions in the village's multi-purpose hall. For three days, free wine tastings, gourmet meals prepared by the Commanderie des Becs Fins, tarte flambées, and concerts create a friendly and festive atmosphere at the foot of the Grand Cru Kaefferkopf.
Every year in March, the village of Ammerschwihr, birthplace of the prestigious Grand Cru Kaefferkopf, hosts its Wine and Gastronomy Fair. Organized by the Confrérie des Amis d'Ammerschwihr et du Kaefferkopf, this event transforms the village's multi-purpose hall into a place for encounters and oenological discoveries, where informed amateurs and wine enthusiasts mingle.
The fair is distinguished by the diversity of its exhibitors: over 22 winemakers and estates representing the main French wine regions — Alsace, Bordeaux, Burgundy, Rhône Valley, Loire, Champagne — and international selections take over the multi-purpose hall. Tastings are free, allowing visitors to compare terroirs and grape varieties in a relaxed atmosphere. A souvenir glass and program are available for €5.
The gastronomic aspect of the fair is provided by the Commanderie des Becs Fins, Alsace delegation, which offers six-course tasting menus, blending culinary creativity and food and wine pairings. On Saturday and Sunday lunch, as well as Saturday evening, guests can enjoy a gourmet menu for €32 accompanied by selected wines. On Sunday afternoon, the essential tarte flambées take over from 4 p.m.
The fair opens on Friday evening with a special dinner by reservation (€25) that kicks off the festivities in a warm atmosphere. On Saturday, the day starts at 11 a.m. and continues until 11 p.m., offering ample tasting opportunities punctuated by concerts and musical entertainment. On Sunday, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., the atmosphere is more family-oriented, with tastings, the gourmet lunch, and afternoon tarte flambées.
Ammerschwihr is an emblematic wine village on the Alsace Wine Route, dominated by the Kaefferkopf hillside, a Grand Cru recognized in 2007, covering over 71 hectares. This granite-limestone terroir, south-east facing between 230 and 350 meters above sea level, produces wines of rare complexity, dominated by Gewurztraminer (70% of the plantings) and Riesling (20%). The Wine and Gastronomy Fair is an opportunity to discover these exceptional wines in their village of origin, surrounded by half-timbered houses, medieval towers, and picturesque streets.
One of the fair's specialties is the option to taste six wines by the glass for €12, accompanied by comments from the winemakers. This offer provides an accessible introduction to the art of tasting while discovering the diversity of the represented terroirs. The winemakers are present at their stands to chat, advise, and share their passion, in the spirit of conviviality that characterizes Alsatian wine events.
The Ammerschwihr Wine and Gastronomy Fair will be held from March 6 to 8, 2026, at the multi-purpose hall. Free tastings with over 22 exhibitors, gourmet meals from the Commanderie des Becs Fins (€32), tarte flambées on Sunday, concerts, and a six-wine tasting (€12).
