International Short Film Festival of Lyon
Filmoramax is the international short film festival of Lyon. Every autumn, this major cinematic event takes over the most beautiful cinemas in Lyon for five days of screenings, masterclasses, and round tables on global short films. With around forty films in international, regional, and student competitions, a jury chaired by a cinema personality, and screenings accessible for only 5 euros, Filmoramax showcases short films in the capital of the Lumière brothers.
Filmoramax is the international short film festival of Lyon. Created in 2019 by Arnaud Mizzon, a cinema enthusiast and cultural entrepreneur, the festival quickly established itself as a must-see event in the Lyon and national film scene.
Each edition presents a selection of approximately 45 short films divided into four categories: international competition (around twenty films), regional competition, student competition, and films out of competition. Ten screening sessions are offered in Lyon's emblematic cinemas, providing a rich and diverse panorama of contemporary global short film creation.
The festival attracts major international cinema personalities. In 2025, American actor Holt McCallany, famous for his role in David Fincher's *Mindhunter*, chaired the jury. The jury is composed of renowned actors, producers, and directors. Masterclasses and round tables allow the public to meet film professionals and deepen their knowledge of the seventh art.
Filmoramax stands out for its commitment to accessibility. Screening sessions are offered for only 5 euros, while masterclasses, round tables, and youth screenings are free. The festival takes over Lyon's most emblematic cinemas, including Pathé Bellecour, Pathé Vaise, and UGC Part-Dieu, allowing as many people as possible to discover the best of international short films.
At the end of the festival, twelve awards are presented by the various juries, recognizing the best works in each category. Among the most coveted awards are the Grand Prix, the Best Directing Award, the Best Acting Award, and the Best Music Award, recently created to highlight the sonic dimension of short films.
By being based in Lyon, the birthplace of cinema with the Lumière brothers, Filmoramax contributes to making the metropolis a major hub for international short film in France. The festival benefits from the support of the City of Lyon, the Lyon Metropolis, and leading institutional and private partners.
