The festival of eclectic duos in Mugron
The 40 en Paires Festival has been animating the center of Mugron for over twenty years with duos who sing, dance, play, and roam. Organized by the association Entracte, this eclectic festival offers music, song, circus, street theater, dance, open-air cinema, and family workshops for all audiences. The shows take place in the street, on the square, under the plane trees, at the cinema, and behind the town hall, in an atmosphere of closeness, humor, and conviviality that marks this unique event in the Landes.
For over twenty years, the 40 en Paires Festival has transformed the center of Mugron into an open-air stage. The concept is as simple as it is appealing: all programmed artists perform as duos. This artistic constraint, far from limiting creativity, generates an incredible diversity of forms: music, French song, folk, circus, object theater, dance, parades, and street performances.
What sets 40 en Paires apart from major festivals is the proximity between artists and spectators. Performances take place in the street, on the Place de la Laïcité, under the plane trees, at the municipal cinema, behind the town hall, and in every corner of the town center. There is no large, distant stage: artists perform among the audience, creating unique and spontaneous moments of interaction.
Each edition features about fifteen duos with varied styles: intimate French chanson, festive folk concerts, acrobatic circus, poetic object theater, contemporary dance, and quirky parades. The programming mixes established artists and new discoveries, with particular attention paid to the originality and accessibility of the proposals.
The festival places great importance on the younger audience with the "Coin des Pitchouns" (Kids' Corner), a space dedicated to children aged 1 to 12 offering shows, workshops, games, activities, and meetings with artists. The "Duolocos," an open stage for amateurs, also allows anyone to perform on stage as a duo.
The festival offers open-air cinema screenings and short film projections, complementing the live performance program. On-site catering, bars, and the warm atmosphere make 40 en Paires a true moment of celebration and sharing.
Supported by the Entracte association, a major cultural player in Chalosse, the festival benefits from the commitment of numerous volunteers and the support of the municipality of Mugron. Entracte also manages the Pôle culturel Le Belvédère (Le Belvédère Cultural Center) throughout the year with a season of shows and concerts.
