Saint-Jean-de-Luz in the colors of Andalusia for the Pentecost weekend
For over thirty years, the Andalusian Festival has transformed Saint-Jean-de-Luz in the colors of Andalusia every Pentecost weekend. For five days, the city vibrates to the rhythm of flamenco, sevillanas, and Spanish music. The green and white casetas take over the seafront, the Andalusian mass resounds in the Saint-Jean-Baptiste church, and a grand parade in traditional costumes crosses the city from Rue Gambetta to Flots Bleus. This cultural festival, organized by the city in collaboration with the Scène nationale du Sud-Aquitaine, celebrates the historical ties between the Basque Country and Andalusia.
Every year at Pentecost, Saint-Jean-de-Luz is adorned with the colors of Andalusia. The Andalusian Festival is one of the city's most popular events, attracting thousands of visitors to enjoy the festive atmosphere and rich Spanish culture.
Created in the 1990s, the Andalusian Festival has established itself as a must-attend event on the Luzien calendar. Organized by the cultural service of the city of Saint-Jean-de-Luz in collaboration with the Scène nationale du Sud-Aquitaine, it testifies to the historical and cultural links between the French Basque Country and neighboring Spain.
The festival spans five days with a dense program:
Culinary events highlight regional Spanish recipes: tapas, paella, churros, and sangria accompany the festivities. Exhibitions, documentary screenings, and debates complete the cultural aspect of the festival.
