The cinema, arts and science festival for a sustainable world
Founded in 2011 in Courbevoie, the Festival Atmosphères is a pioneering event that explores the major issues of the contemporary world through the prism of cinema, arts, and sciences. Entirely free and open to all, this unique festival combines committed documentaries and fiction, debates with researchers and filmmakers, workshops, exhibitions, and performances to make culture a lever for ecological and social transition. Every October, it brings together around 20,000 spectators and 3,000 schoolchildren.
Few festivals are as unique and as necessary as the Festival Atmosphères. Born in 2011 in Courbevoie, Hauts-de-Seine, it was founded by Pascal Signolet with a clear ambition: to make culture a tool for raising awareness and taking action in the face of the ecological and social crises of our time.
The festival is not an ordinary environmental cinema festival. It is a meeting place for artists, scientists, researchers, citizens, and students around films, debates, workshops, and performances that explore the complexity of the world we live in — and the paths towards a more just and sustainable future.
Atmosphères is organized around several complementary axes:
The festival benefits from the support of committed personalities who bring it visibility and credibility: Marion Cotillard, actress and environmental activist, Cyril Dion, committed filmmaker and writer (Demain), and Hubert Reeves, astrophysicist and an iconic figure in science popularization, are among the festival's historical patrons.
Total free admission is one of the pillars of the Festival Atmosphères. Convinced that culture must be accessible to everyone, the organizers have maintained free entry to all events since the beginning. A free festival pass is available online, without guaranteed seating (entry subject to capacity), in a logic of assumed equality of access.
The 15th edition of the Festival Atmosphères was held from October 8 to 12, 2025 in Courbevoie and online. Under the theme of the anniversary and openness, this edition explored the theme of "Intelligence(s)" — human, rational, intuitive, and collective intelligence, the intelligence of life, and artificial intelligence with its uses, developments, and social and environmental impact. 22 films were presented, including several world premieres, accompanied by debates, conferences, an exhibition, and a special evening dedicated to glacier preservation with glaciologist Heïdi Sevestre.
The 16th edition will be held from October 7 to 11, 2026 in Courbevoie, online, and in partner multiplexes across France. The theme and program will be announced in the spring of 2026. Free and open to all, the festival will continue to explore the intersections between cinema, arts, sciences, and citizen engagement to outline the contours of a more sustainable world.
