About Baroque du Mont-Blanc

Created in 1998 in Cordon, the Festival Baroque du Pays du Mont-Blanc offers a unique musical immersion every July in the baroque churches of the Mont-Blanc valley. For about ten days, internationally renowned ensembles perform the masterpieces of the baroque repertoire — Bach, Vivaldi, Handel, Rameau, Couperin — in an exceptional heritage setting. The churches of Passy, Combloux, Saint-Gervais-les-Bains, Cordon, Chamonix, and Les Contamines-Montjoie become concert halls where the remarkable acoustics and the beauty of the baroque altarpieces enhance each performance. The festival, which also offers guided tours, conferences, and musical walks, celebrates the intimate link between Alpine heritage and ancient music.

Festival Baroque du Pays du Mont-Blanc: where music enhances heritage

The Festival Baroque du Pays du Mont-Blanc was born in 1998 in Cordon, a small mountain village facing the Mont-Blanc massif. The founding idea is as simple as it is powerful: to make baroque music resonate in the baroque churches of the valley, creating a unique dialogue between musical art and the sacred architecture of the Alps.

The baroque churches of the Pays du Mont-Blanc constitute a remarkable, too often overlooked, heritage. Built between the 17th and 18th centuries, they house gilded altarpieces, frescoes, and decorations of extraordinary richness. The festival offers an opportunity to discover these architectural gems through the prism of the music for which they were designed.

Nine concerts, nine churches

Each edition offers a series of nine concerts in nine different churches in the Pays du Mont-Blanc: Passy, Combloux, Saint-Gervais-les-Bains, Cordon, Les Contamines-Montjoie, Chamonix, and other towns in the valley. The evening concerts are complemented by guided tours of the baroque buildings, conferences, screenings, and musical walks that allow visitors to discover the heritage in all its richness.

Top-level performers

The festival attracts internationally renowned ensembles and soloists specializing in performance on period instruments. Over the years, the Festival Baroque du Pays du Mont-Blanc has acquired a reputation for artistic excellence, making it a highly anticipated event for music lovers and ancient music enthusiasts from all over the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region and beyond.

A festival rooted in its territory

The Festival Baroque du Pays du Mont-Blanc is supported by an association of enthusiasts and benefits from the support of the municipalities of the Pays du Mont-Blanc, the Department of Haute-Savoie, and the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Region. It contributes to the enhancement of a unique Alpine baroque heritage and the valley's summer cultural appeal.

Themes and metamorphoses

Each edition is structured around a theme that permeates the programming and guides artistic choices. Recent themes — “Metamorphoses” in 2025, “Baroque Flavors” in 2026 — testify to the festival's desire to constantly renew the perspective on baroque music, between tradition and modernity.

Baroque du Mont-Blanc — edition 2026
