Festival of traditional and folk music and dances in Ardèche
The Festival d'Amondaut and Trad'Ardèche are two events supported by FAMDTA (Federation of Traditional Music and Dance Workshops of Ardèche), dedicated to traditional music, folk dances, and regional languages. The Festival d'Amondaut, whose name means "festival from above" in Occitan, takes place at the Ferme de Bourlatier on the Ardèche mountains. Trad'Ardèche, a festival of dances, workshops, and concerts, takes place every year in Privas the weekend before Pentecost, and in 2025 celebrated its twentieth anniversary.
The Festival d'Amondaut and Trad'Ardèche are two complementary events supported by the FAMDTA (Federation of Traditional Music and Dance Workshops of Ardèche), an association that brings together traditional music and dance workshops in the department. These two festivals share the same passion for traditional music, folk dances, and regional languages, particularly Occitan.
The Festival d'Amondaut, whose name means "festival from above" in Occitan, takes place at the Ferme de Bourlatier, a magnificent stone building located in the heart of the Montagne ardéchoise, in the commune of Sagnes-et-Goudoulet. The festival invites you to discover and share the cultural heritage of Ardèche and the surrounding regions through music, dance, and regional languages. Short workshops allow you to learn a song, a dance, or a tune in Occitan in a few hours: bourrée in 3 beats, dances from Vivarais, music and songs from Ardèche and Dauphiné.
Trad'Ardèche is a festival of dances, workshops, and concerts that takes place every year in Privas, the prefecture of Ardèche, the weekend before Pentecost. The 2025 edition celebrated the twentieth anniversary of the festival, on June 6, 2025. Over three days, the festival offers folk dances in the evening, dance workshops (dances from Poitou, Basque dances, Breton dances, couple dances), music workshops (Irish fiddle, diatonic accordion, Kurdish repertoire), and open stages for amateur musicians.
FAMDTA coordinates a network of traditional music and dance workshops throughout the Ardèche department, with regular sessions ("trad sessions") in Privas and other communes. The Trad'Ardèche festival takes place at the Petit Bois, near the Salle de l'Ouvèze in Privas, and since 2026 has offered a Trad Village where the public can meet FAMDTA associations, music schools, luthiers, and other players in the traditional music movement.
While Trad'Ardèche is now firmly established in Privas, the Festival d'Amondaut retains its traveling and mountain dimension, exploring the high plateaus of Ardèche and the heritage sites of the department. These two events embody a resolutely participatory festival, where the public is invited to play, sing, and dance, in a spirit of intergenerational transmission and sharing.
