The largest tabletop role-playing game festival in Alsace, in an exceptional medieval village
Organized since 2007 by the Association Nickel and affiliated with the French Federation of Role-Playing Games, the Kaysersberg Role-Playing Game Festival is the annual meeting for role-players from Alsace and beyond. Every first weekend of May, the medieval streets of Kaysersberg Vignoble transform into a fantasy universe with over three hundred role-playing tables, sixty exhibitors including twenty publishing houses, a rolístico-fantastic market, street entertainment, archery, Troll-Ball, and all-night games until dawn. Free admission.
The Kaysersberg Role-Playing Game Festival has become over nearly twenty years the largest gathering of role-players in Alsace and one of the major tabletop role-playing game events in France. Created in 2007 by the Association Nickel, this free festival open to all takes over the streets and halls of Kaysersberg Vignoble every first weekend of May, a village voted Favorite Village of the French in 2017. The exceptional medieval setting of the town — imperial castle ruins, half-timbered houses, fortified bridge over the Weiss — offers an ideal natural backdrop for diving into the universes of fantasy, science fiction, and adventure.
The heart of the festival is the tabletop role-playing game tables: over three hundred games are offered throughout the weekend, led by volunteer and professional game masters. Slots run from Saturday 1 p.m. to Sunday 6 p.m., with sessions in the afternoon, evening, and even at night for the most passionate — Saturday night games continue until 6 a.m. All genres are represented: med-fan, horror, science fiction, contemporary, historical, mystery, and the latest releases from publishers. Beginners are welcome, with introductory tables specially designed to discover role-playing games.
The festival hosts about sixty exhibitors, including twenty publishing houses specializing in role-playing games, board games, and fantasy. Visitors can discover the latest releases, meet authors and illustrators, and purchase signed works. The rolístico-fantastic market offers medieval-fantasy crafts, jewelry, game accessories (dice, miniatures, pouches), costumes, original illustrations, and creations inspired by fantasy universes.
The Role-Playing Game Festival is not limited to game tables. The streets of Kaysersberg come alive with street shows, storytellers recounting fantasy legends, exhibitions of illustrations, and life-sized escape games. Outdoor activities include archery, Troll-Ball — a sports game inspired by the role-playing universe —, a thief's course filled with riddles and skill tests. Visitors are encouraged to come costumed, adding a festive and immersive dimension to the event.
To feed the adventurers, the festival tavern offers quality food throughout the weekend. Visitors can enjoy grilled sausages, Alsatian flammekueches, and other specialties, accompanied by various drinks. The tavern's atmosphere, decorated according to the edition's theme, extends the immersion into the festival's fantasy universe. Each edition adopts a specific theme — "Arthurian Legend" in 2025, "Mythical Creatures" in 2026 — which inspires the decoration, entertainment, and general atmosphere of the event.
The 20th edition of the Kaysersberg Role-Playing Game Festival will take place on May 9th and 10th, 2026, with the theme "Mythical Creatures." For this anniversary, the festival promises an epic edition with over 300 role-playing tables, 60 exhibitors including 20 publishers, a rolístico-fantastic market, and numerous activities.
