One of the oldest festivals in France, in Saint-Michel-de-Chabrillanoux in Ardèche
The Festival de la Chabriole is one of the oldest festivals in France, born in 1976 in Saint-Michel-de-Chabrillanoux, a small village in the Ardèche region. Entirely run by volunteers, without sponsors and funded solely by ticket sales, this popular festival offers an evening of eclectic concerts on the third weekend of July, followed by a village festival the next day. With a single price of 25 euros and free entry for children under 12, La Chabriole remains true to the festive and popular spirit that has animated it for nearly fifty years.
The Festival de la Chabriole is one of the oldest festivals in France, with origins dating back to the late 1960s when teenagers from Saint-Michel-de-Chabrillanoux and Saint-Maurice-en-Chalencon created a youth center and popular education initiative. The first village festival was organized in 1971, and the festival as we know it today was born in 1976. Since then, every summer, the village comes alive to the rhythm of La Chabriole.
La Chabriole's programming is distinguished by its eclecticism and musical openness. The festival features artists from a wide variety of genres: French chanson, reggae, ska punk, world music, folk, and festive bands. The 2024 edition hosted Groundation, a world reference in reggae, La Caravane Passe, THK (Tetra Hydro K), and Wepa Wepa. The 2025 edition featured Les Ogres de Barback and La Rue Kétanou with their joint project "Tout en commun", The Locos (former members of Ska-P), Radio Tutti feat. Barilla Sisters, and Les P'tits Yeux.
The concerts take place at the Théâtre de Verdure André Chave, a natural arena nestled in greenery offering a spectacular view of the Vercors mountains. This exceptional open-air setting contributes to the festival's unique and warm atmosphere. The concert evening takes place on Saturday, from 6 PM to 2 AM, followed on Sunday by a village festival with games, a pétanque tournament, and conviviality, with free access.
La Chabriole is a cultural, festive, and popular event entirely run by volunteers. The festival receives no sponsors and is fully funded by ticket sales, despite a modest price of 25 euros per person and free entry for children under 12. This financial independence guarantees the festival's artistic freedom and its commitment to the popular education values that gave it birth.
In 2025, the festival celebrated its 48th edition, with a sold-out Saturday, demonstrating the growing enthusiasm for this event. Despite the changes in the French festival scene, La Chabriole has remained true to the warm and unique atmosphere that has characterized it since its origins, blending music, village festival, and popular spirit in an exceptional natural setting.

The festival takes place at the Théâtre de Verdure André Chave, Saint-Michel-de-Chabrillanoux, 07360.
