With a free and conscious pricing system starting at 5 euros, La Luzège democratizes access to theater in rural areas.
The Festival de la Luzège is a traveling theater festival created in 1987 in Corrèze. For nearly 40 years, this summer event has brought theater to life in the rural communes of the department, with a program that circulates in about twenty heritage sites, village squares, barns, castles, and natural spaces. The festival takes its name from the Luzège river, a tributary of the Dordogne in Corrèze, symbolizing the itinerant nature of the project that irrigates the territory like a river crossing landscapes.
Since 2018, the festival has been directed by a collective of four young artists, who have brought a new dynamic while preserving the founding spirit of the project: making theater accessible in rural areas, promoting local heritage, and fostering encounters between artists and residents. This collegial direction favors a demanding yet popular program, mixing contemporary creations, adaptations of classics, and innovative forms.
Every summer, from mid-July to mid-August, the festival offers 7 different shows produced by 4 companies, touring in 24 communes in Corrèze and neighboring departments. Each play is performed several times, allowing the public to discover the creations in different locations. The 2025 program notably included Fanny and César, the second and third parts of Marcel Pagnol's Marseillaise Trilogy, following the creation of Marius in 2024. The festival favors strong texts, inventive staging, and shows that engage with their performance venues.
The Festival de la Luzège uses a system of free and conscious pricing starting at 5 euros per show. This solidarity-based pricing allows all audiences, regardless of their means, to access the performances. Spectators pay what they can or what they deem fair, consciously recognizing the value of the artistic work. This alternative economic model is part of the festival's philosophy: democratizing access to culture and making theater a shared common good.
Each year, the festival offers a carte blanche to a company at the Roc du Gour Noir, an emblematic natural site. For the 2025 edition, the company CHAMP LIBRE presented various artistic proposals. The festival also hosts artists in residence and organizes meetings with the public after performances, creating a true space for dialogue between creators and spectators.
40th edition of the Festival de la Luzège, from July 18 to August 16, 2026. Traveling theater festival in 24 communes of Corrèze. Program to be announced. Free pricing from 5 euros.
The 40th edition of the Festival de la Luzège will take place from July 18 to August 16, 2026, marking four decades of existence for this unique traveling theater festival in Corrèze. This anniversary edition will be an opportunity to celebrate the project's longevity and its essential role in the cultural enrichment of the rural territory.
As every year, the festival will offer several traveling shows in about twenty communes, with the system of free and conscious pricing starting at 5 euros. The 2026 program, which will be announced in the spring, should continue the collective's artistic direction: strong texts, inventive staging, and constant dialogue between the works and their performance venues. The festival will continue to offer a carte blanche to a company and host artists in residence.
