Theater Festival in the historic setting of the Royal Abbey
The Festival de Théâtre à l'Abbaye takes over the Royal Abbey of Saint-Jean-d'Angély, a historic monument inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage list on the paths of Santiago de Compostela. This majestic setting offers a perfect backdrop for contemporary and classical theatrical creations.
The festival offers an eclectic program mixing contemporary theater, classical theater, and innovative performances. Local and national companies take turns offering the public quality shows in different spaces of the abbey, from the cloister to the vaulted halls.
The Royal Abbey, founded in the 9th century, is one of the architectural jewels of Charente-Maritime. The festival allows us to rediscover this heritage from an artistic perspective, creating a unique dialogue between ancient stone and living art.
The 11th edition of the Festival de Théâtre à l'Abbaye promises a rich and varied program mixing classical, contemporary theater, and innovative performances. The festival continues to explore the possible dialogues between historical heritage and artistic creation.
