Festival des Possibles

ℹ️ Festival discontinued. The Festival des Possibles was held in Sens from 2019 to 2022. Its last publicly documented edition was the 4th edition, from November 24 to 26, 2022, at the Confluences cinema. No subsequent edition (2023, 2024, 2025, 2026) has been announced by the organization or relayed by the press or tourist offices: the festival no longer seems to be held currently. This page is kept for archival purposes.

The Festival des Possibles: cinema serving the world to come

Born in Sens in 2019 on the initiative of the Des Possibles association, the Festival des Possibles had established itself as a cultural event in Yonne. Its purpose was clear: to put documentary cinema at the service of collective awareness, by showing that concrete solutions existed in the face of environmental and societal emergencies.

An original format: 10 films, 10 debates, 10 solutions

The festival's formula was as simple as it was effective. Each edition presented a selection of 7 to 10 documentary films, awarded prizes at international festivals or selected for the relevance of the solution they proposed. Each screening was followed by a debate with speakers — researchers, elected officials, associative actors, social entrepreneurs — who allowed for a deeper exploration of the themes addressed and the consideration of local adaptations.

Themes at the heart of contemporary issues

The Festival des Possibles explored a wide range of environmental and societal issues:

• Biodiversity and ecosystem preservation
• Climate and air, water, and soil quality
• Circular and solidarity economy
• Environmental health
• Sustainable agriculture and food
• Oceans and aquatic environments
• Education and transmission of ecological knowledge

Awards to highlight solutions

The festival awarded several prizes during its closing ceremony, distinguishing films according to their impact and the nature of the solutions they highlighted: Grand Jury Prize, Produce/Consume Prize, Restore/Preserve Prize, Educate/Entertain Prize, Help/Share Prize, Local Prize, and High School Students' Prize.

The High School Students' Prize: training the citizens of tomorrow

The involvement of high school students from Sens in the jury was one of the most original features of the Festival des Possibles. Entire classes discovered the films during school screenings, deliberated, and awarded their own prize — an educational dimension that made the festival a tool for civic awareness.

A festival rooted in the Yonne territory

The Festival des Possibles took place at the Confluences cinema in Sens. It benefited from the support of local and national partners and relied on a network of committed volunteers. From 2019 to 2022, it contributed to making Sens a hub for environmental culture in Bourgogne-Franche-Comté.
