42 km between castles and UNESCO medieval city, from Blandy castle to Provins
On May 10, 2026, the Department of Seine-et-Marne launches the first edition of the Marathon Médiéval, a unique sporting and heritage event linking Blandy-lès-Tours castle to the medieval city of Provins, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Runners will cover 42.195 km through nine municipalities in Seine-et-Marne, passing by four major medieval sites: Blandy castle, the collegiate church of Champeaux, the church of Cucharmoy, and the Gallo-Roman theater of Châteaubleau, before crossing the Saint-Jean gate of the upper town of Provins. A marathon, half-marathon, six-person relay, and themed races for children make up a festive program where sport, history, and local produce meet, under the patronage of Lorànt Deutsch.
The Marathon Médiéval de Seine-et-Marne is an unprecedented event that combines a sporting challenge with heritage discovery. The 42.195 km course connects two medieval jewels of the department: the Château de Blandy-lès-Tours, a 13th-century fortress restored by the Department, and the medieval city of Provins, a UNESCO World Heritage site, a unique testament to the Champagne fairs of the 12th and 13th centuries.
Runners will cross nine municipalities in Seine-et-Marne and pass by four major medieval sites that mark the route as historical stages:
The finish line is at the Porte Saint-Jean, the monumental entrance to the upper town of Provins, offering runners a spectacular finale in the heart of the medieval city.
The Marathon Médiéval offers four formats suitable for all levels:
Beyond the race, the Marathon Médiéval is a festive event that promotes the Seine-et-Marne region. Throughout the day, activities will highlight local know-how and produce: tastings of Brie cheese, cider, and other local products, artisan villages, medieval shows in Provins and Blandy. The patron of this first edition is Lorànt Deutsch, a writer and actor passionate about history.
The Marathon Médiéval is an initiative of the Department of Seine-et-Marne, which aims to make this event a leading annual sporting and tourist gathering. By combining running with medieval heritage, the Department highlights the exceptional historical richness of its territory, often overlooked, and invites runners and spectators to discover the treasures of Brie Champenoise.
