42 km between Blandy-lès-Tours castle and the medieval city of Provins (UNESCO), annual edition in May
2027
About Marathon Médiéval
The Seine-et-Marne Medieval Marathon is an annual sporting and heritage event launched in May 2026 by the Seine-et-Marne Department. The 42.195 km route connects Blandy-lès-Tours castle to the medieval city of Provins, a UNESCO World Heritage site, crossing nine communes and four major medieval sites: Blandy castle, Champeaux collegiate church, Cucharmoy church, and the Gallo-Roman theatre of Châteaubleau, before passing through the Saint-Jean gate of Provins' upper town. Marathon, Tours half-marathon, relay marathon, 5 km Knights and Princesses, and youth races make up a festive weekend where sport, history, and local produce come together.
Marathon Médiéval — edition 2027
The 2nd edition of the Seine-et-Marne Medieval Marathon is announced for the weekend of May 15 and 16, 2027, between the Château de Blandy-lès-Tours and the medieval city of Provins (UNESCO). After a successful first edition in 2026 (over 3,600 registered participants), the Department of Seine-et-Marne is renewing its five formats: marathon (42.195 km), semi-marathon des Tours, marathon-relay, 5 km Chevaliers et Princesses, and youth races.
2nd Edition — May 15 and 16, 2027
After the success of its first edition in May 2026 (over 3,600 registered runners), the Seine-et-Marne Medieval Marathon returns for a 2nd edition on Saturday, May 15 and Sunday, May 16, 2027. The event remains organized by the Department of Seine-et-Marne, on the same emblematic route connecting the Château de Blandy-lès-Tours to the medieval city of Provins, a UNESCO World Heritage site.
The five renewed formats
The format established in 2026 is maintained for this second edition:
- The marathon (42.195 km), a major challenge from Blandy-lès-Tours to Provins
- The semi-marathon des Tours (21.0975 km), a loop around Blandy
- The marathon-relay in teams of 3 to 6 runners over 6 sections
- The 5 km Chevaliers et Princesses, a festive, untimed race for teenagers and adults (costumes encouraged), offered at both sites
- The youth races (400 m / 850 m / 1,500 m depending on age), free
Heritage, local products, and entertainment
The weekend retains its festive DNA: a market for producers and artisans, medieval shows and music, fantastic strolls, equestrian performances, and immersive workshops at both sites of Blandy-lès-Tours and Provins. A portion of the profits continues to be donated to the restoration of local heritage, with the support of the Ministry of Culture and the Heritage Foundation.

From Blandy-lès-Tours to Provins, two jewels of medieval heritage
The Seine-et-Marne Medieval Marathon is an event that combines sporting challenge and heritage discovery. The 42.195 km route connects two emblematic sites of the department: the Château de Blandy-lès-Tours, a 13th-century five-tower fortress classified as a historical monument and restored by the Department, and the medieval city of Provins, a UNESCO World Heritage site as a unique testimony to the Champagne Fairs of the 12th and 13th centuries.
A journey through history
Runners cross nine communes of La Brie and pass four major medieval sites that punctuate the route like historical stages:
- The Château de Blandy-lès-Tours, starting point, a five-tower fortress classified as a historical monument
- The Collégiale Saint-Martin de Champeaux, a masterpiece of Gothic architecture with remarkable sculpted stalls
- The Église Sainte-Geneviève de Cucharmoy, a Romanesque building nestled in the Briarde countryside
- The Gallo-Roman theatre of Châteaubleau, an ancient vestige testifying to the archaeological richness of the territory
The finish is through the Porte Saint-Jean, a monumental entrance to the upper town of Provins, offering runners a spectacular finish in the heart of the medieval city.
Five formats for all levels
The Medieval Marathon offers several formats adapted to all runners:
- The marathon (42.195 km) from Blandy-lès-Tours to Provins, the main challenge
- The Tours half-marathon (21.0975 km), a loop around Blandy-lès-Tours
- The relay marathon in teams of 3 to 6 runners over the 6 sections of the course
- The 5 km Knights and Princesses, a non-timed thematic race for teenagers and adults, organized at both sites (Blandy on Saturday, Provins on Sunday), costumes encouraged
- The youth races (400 m for 7-9 year olds, 850 m for 10-11 year olds, 1,500 m for 12-13 year olds), free, at both sites
Sport, heritage and local produce
Beyond the race, the Medieval Marathon is a festive event that promotes the local produce of Seine-et-Marne and the medieval heritage of La Brie. Throughout the weekend, activities highlight local know-how and regional products: producers' and artisans' market, tastings of Brie cheese, cider and Brie specialties, medieval shows and music, fantastic strolls, immersive workshops and equestrian performances in both Blandy and Provins. The patron of the first edition is Lorànt Deutsch, a writer and actor passionate about history.
A project led by the Department
The Medieval Marathon is an initiative of the Seine-et-Marne Department, supported by the Ministry of Culture and the Fondation du Patrimoine. The event aims to become a leading annual sporting and tourist event: by combining running and medieval heritage, the Department highlights the exceptional historical richness of Brie Champenoise and invites runners and spectators to discover often little-known treasures. A portion of the profits is donated to the restoration of local heritage.
