The only flamenco festival in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region
The Festival Flamenco La Movida was born from the passion of Raquel Picon, co-founder of the Centre Culturel Hispanique, for flamenco. When UNESCO inscribed flamenco on the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity list on November 16, 2010, she decided, with Amadora, Marie-France, and Thelma, to create a flamenco dance competition that would quickly become the "La Movida" Flamenco Festival, in homage to the cultural and artistic movement that transformed Spain in the 1980s.
Every spring, for a week in April, Valence vibrates to the rhythm of flamenco. The festival takes place in several emblematic venues in the city: the Théâtre de la Ville, Lux Scène Nationale, and the Baodway. The program brings together international flamenco figures and emerging talents, as well as local dancers and musicians, in a week of artistic exchange and discovery.
The Drôme Flamenco Dance Competition is the highlight of the festival. Unique in France, it attracts dancers from all over France and Spain, who come to showcase their art and passion. The competition helps to discover new talents and promote flamenco teaching. A jury of professionals evaluates participants in various categories.
The festival offers a rich and varied program: flamenco dance and music shows by renowned artists, courses and workshops to learn or improve flamenco dancing, exhibitions on Hispanic culture, and the famous Sevillian parade through the streets of Valence, which transforms the city into an Andalusian feria for a day.
The Festival Flamenco La Movida aims to be a cultural bridge between France and Spain. It fosters encounters between enthusiasts and professionals, attracting artists and participants from both sides of the Pyrenees. The event contributes to the cultural influence of Valence and the Drôme, by offering a quality program centered around an art form recognized as world heritage.
The Festival Flamenco La Movida returns from April 20 to 26, 2026 in Valence for a new edition. Flamenco shows, dance competitions, workshops, exhibitions, and a Sevillian parade will animate the city for a week. The detailed program will be announced in early 2026.
The festival takes place in several venues in Valence (26000).
