Festival International du Film de Vébron: nearly four decades of cinema in the Cévennes

Created in 1988 by a handful of young Vébron residents passionate about the 7th Art, the Festival International du Film de Vébron has become over the years the oldest cultural event in Lozère. Every summer, for five days in July, the small Cévenol village of Vébron transforms into the capital of short films, welcoming films from around the world in an exceptional natural setting, in the heart of the Cévennes National Park.

An international short film competition

The heart of the festival is its official competition, which features over 12 hours of film screenings from around the world. Amateurs and professionals mingle in all categories: fiction, documentaries, music videos, reports, animations, films from schools and workshops. This diversity of genres and levels is the richness and originality of the festival, which has always defended the idea that cinema is accessible to all, both in front of and behind the camera.

A festival open to all formats

Originally named Festival International du Film Vidéo, the festival was founded around the then-innovative video medium as a tool for democratizing cinematic creation. Today, it welcomes works on all media and in all formats, while retaining this pioneering spirit of openness and accessibility.

Much more than a film festival

Beyond the screenings, the Festival de Vébron offers a rich and varied program of cultural activities: major open-air cinema evenings followed by conferences and debates, video courses, directing workshops, exhibitions, and educational and recreational activities for all tastes and ages. These activities contribute to making the festival a true moment of sharing and transmission around cinema.

L'Écran Cévenol: a commitment to culture

The festival is organized by the association l'Écran Cévenol, based in Vébron. Since its creation, the association has advocated for keeping the festival entirely free, offering everyone free access to culture and cinema. This commitment to free access is at the heart of the festival's identity and its founding philosophy: to create a bold and innovative cultural event in a small village in Lozère.

An exceptional natural setting

Nestled in the Jonte valley, at the foot of the Méjean and Noir causses, Vébron offers a spectacular setting for this film festival. The open-air screenings, with the limestone cliffs as a backdrop, create a unique and unforgettable atmosphere. The village, its medieval ruins, and its grandiose landscapes add a poetic dimension to the cinematic experience.
