The world's largest piano festival
The La Roque-d'Anthéron International Piano Festival is a musical institution unique in the world. Since its creation in 1981 by Paul-Bernard Music and René Martin, it has become the largest festival entirely devoted to the piano, attracting the planet's greatest virtuosos each summer to the Parc du Château de Florans, in the town of La Roque-d'Anthéron, at the foot of the Luberon. For four weeks, from mid-July to mid-August, the festival offers around a hundred concerts—recitals, chamber music, orchestral concerts—covering a repertoire ranging from baroque to contemporary creations.
An exceptional natural setting
The magic of the festival owes much to its incomparable natural setting. The main stage is set up outdoors in the Parc du Château de Florans, under the canopy of centenary plane trees whose branches form a vegetal cathedral above the audience. This 2,000-seat green theater, bathed in the golden light of Provençal summer evenings, offers remarkable natural acoustics and a unique sensory experience. Other venues—the Cloister of Silvacane, the Church of La Roque-d'Anthéron, the Park of Château de la Verdière—host concerts in exceptional heritage settings.
The world's greatest pianists
Over the decades, the La Roque-d'Anthéron Festival has hosted the biggest names in world piano: Martha Argerich, Krystian Zimerman, Evgeny Kissin, Grigory Sokolov, Alexandre Kantorow, Maria João Pires, Arcadi Volodos, Adam Laloum... Each edition blends established legends and young talents, offering a complete panorama of contemporary piano art. The festival also features concerts on harpsichord, fortepiano, organ, and electric piano, demonstrating the diversity of repertoires and instrumental approaches.
A month of music at the foot of the Luberon
For four weeks, La Roque-d'Anthéron lives to the rhythm of the piano. Concerts take place in the morning, afternoon, and evening, offering festival-goers the opportunity to immerse themselves fully in music. The Nocturnes, evening concerts under the stars, are particularly popular moments. The festival also extends to neighboring towns with concerts in the region's abbeys, churches, and castles. It is complemented by an OFF festival offering free concerts and artist meet-and-greets, in a spirit of sharing and transmitting music.
