World music festival on the Esplanade du J4 in Marseille
The Fiesta des Suds was born in 1992 in the Docks of the Joliette district, founded by four friends passionate about music. Two years later, it moved to hangar J4, before migrating in 1996 to the tobacco factory in Belle de Mai. Over the decades, the Fiesta has reinvented itself while retaining its DNA: a mix of styles and formats, an alternation between emerging and mainstream artists, and a significant place given to the local scene.
Now located on the Esplanade du J4 (renamed Esplanade Gisèle Halimi), at the foot of the Mucem and facing the Mediterranean, the Fiesta des Suds benefits from a spectacular setting to welcome its festival-goers. For four days in October, several stages offer concerts from evening until early morning, while the closing Sunday traditionally offers a free festive day open to all.
The Fiesta des Suds program reflects the musical diversity of Marseille and the Mediterranean world. World music, rock, reggae, electro, hip-hop, French chanson, and traditional music coexist in a spirit of discovery and celebration. The 2024 edition hosted artists as diverse as Olivia Ruiz, MC Solaar, Flavia Coelho, and Danakil.
Beyond the festival, Fiesta des Suds carries out year-round cultural outreach work, with mediation activities, artistic residencies, and support for emerging artists from the Marseille and Mediterranean region. The festival is also committed to accessibility and welcomes people with disabilities.
The 35th edition of Fiesta des Suds will be held from October 8-11, 2026 on the Esplanade Gisèle Halimi (J4) in Marseille, at the foot of the Mucem and facing the Mediterranean. Four days of world music, French chanson, pop, electro, and reggae, featuring Véronique Sanson, Imany, Stephan Eicher, Bertrand Belin, Deluxe, and Selah Sue among the first names announced.
