Traveling classical music festival in the villages of Luberon and Ventoux
Since 1989, the Musicales du Luberon have woven their musical tapestry through the villages of the Luberon and Ventoux, offering a traveling classical music festival of rare quality and authenticity each year. The principle is simple and unchanging: bring great music to where it is not expected, in the alleys of perched villages, Romanesque chapels, medieval castle courtyards, and shady squares lined with plane trees.
Founded in Ménerbes—a village listed among the most beautiful in France overlooking the Luberon valley—the Musicales have gradually expanded their territory towards Oppède, Lacoste, Gordes, Bonnieux, Les Taillades, Apt to the east, and as far as Bédoin at the foot of Mont Ventoux. This network of locations constitutes a unique cultural heritage, where each concert takes on a special dimension thanks to its architectural and landscape environment.
The 2025 season of Les Musicales du Luberon has chosen the theme of "Suspended Moments"—an invitation to pause, to listen, to let music suspend time amidst the turmoil of the world. This poetic thread guided the programming of 12 concerts spread from July 8 to October 11, 2025, in three parts: the effervescent spring, the incandescent summer, and the flamboyant autumn.
The 2025 edition opened on June 6 with a vibrant tribute to soprano Jessye Norman, performed by Marie-Laure Garnier, a magnetic voice of the new generation who moved the audience in Ménerbes. Xavier Phillips, a cellist renowned for his rich and expressive tone, performed in July in Ménerbes and Bédoin for two evenings that confirmed his status as an essential artist.
The balance between major names in classical music, contemporary music, improvisation, and unusual proposals characterizes the artistic project of the Musicales: refusing conformity to surprise and move, while remaining deeply rooted in tradition.
Les Musicales du Luberon are committed to making classical music accessible to everyone. Concerts for young audiences allow children to discover instruments and repertoire works in a fun and warm atmosphere. Musical conferences shed light on the context of the works and the lives of composers, adding an educational dimension to the concert experience.
Encounters with artists, organized after certain concerts, give the public the opportunity to interact directly with the performers in an informal setting. This proximity is one of the hallmarks of the Musicales, which cultivate a lively and direct relationship between musicians and their audience.
The venues hosting the concerts of Les Musicales du Luberon are part of the festival's identity. The Romanesque chapels with their surprising natural acoustics, the courtyards of medieval castles, the terraced gardens overlooking the Luberon valleys, the village squares lined with century-old plane trees: each location brings its own magic to the music that resonates there.
The beauty of the Provençal landscapes—blooming lavender in July, golden autumn light on the vineyards, the silence of fragrant garrigue—gives the Musicales concerts a unique atmosphere, impossible to replicate in a classical concert hall. It is this communion between music and nature, between musical heritage and landscape heritage, that makes Les Musicales du Luberon so unique and irresistibly charming.
In 36 seasons, Les Musicales du Luberon have hosted hundreds of artists of all nationalities, established and emerging, and have helped promote the Luberon as a leading cultural region. The loyalty of the audience—regulars who have followed the festival since its beginnings—testifies to the trust built over the years between the organizing team and lovers of good music.
The festival is supported by local authorities, the Department of Vaucluse, and the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur Region, which recognize its structuring role in the cultural life of the territory. It contributes to the tourist appeal of the Luberon and the animation of the villages, often outside the most frequented tourist routes.
Les Musicales du Luberon return in 2026 for a new season of itinerant classical concerts in the villages of Luberon and Ventoux, on the theme of the «New World». From the opening concert on May 24th until the autumnal epilogue on October 10th, the festival unfolds its program in Ménerbes, Lacoste, Les Taillades, Bonnieux, Apt, Beaumes-de-Venise and Bédoin, mixing great performers, young talents, opera, chamber music, and musical conferences in exceptional heritage sites. For its new season, the festival places its program under the theme of the «New World», an invitation to hope and rebirth, between dream and creation. True to their itinerant spirit, Les Musicales du Luberon will take over seven sites from May 24th to July 27th — Apt, Lacoste, Les Taillades, Ménerbes, Bonnieux, Beaumes-de-Venise and Bédoin — before an autumnal extension that concludes on October 10th.
The 2026 season alternates recitals, opera, chamber music, and more unusual proposals, performed by great international artists and rising young talents: Béatrice Berrut, Marina Viotti, Eva Zavaro, the Trio Karenine, Julie Depardieu, Delphine Haidan, Jean-Frédéric Neuburger, Geoffroy Couteau, or Denis Podalydès and Jean-Philippe Collard for the autumn.
As every year, the concerts are hosted in remarkable heritage sites — the Saint-Luc church in Ménerbes, the Domaine de la Citadelle, the Fondation Blachère in Bonnieux, the Théâtre des Taillades, the Domaine de Coyeux — where the acoustics of chapels, castle courtyards, and open-air theaters offer a unique setting for great music. Musical conferences and meetings with artists complete the program.
