Summer concert festival in the open air in the natural park of the Sorgue
Every summer, L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue invites its residents and visitors to enjoy exceptional musical evenings in the enchanting setting of its parks along the Sorgue river. 'Un Soir au Parc' is the summer cultural event of the antique dealers' town: open-air concerts, artists from all walks of life, fragrant nights under the century-old plane trees by the river. A moment of grace where music meets Provence.
L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue is not just the capital of antiques: it is also a town that knows how to cultivate the beauty of the present moment. Every summer, the municipality organizes the open-air concert series "Un Soir au Parc", which transforms its green spaces along the Sorgue into open-air stages, in the heart of one of Provence's most beautiful settings.
The public parks and gardens of L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue are an exceptional natural heritage. Shaded by century-old plane trees and crossed by the clear, cool arms of the Sorgue, they offer welcome coolness in the summer and remarkable natural acoustics that the organizers have skillfully highlighted to host concerts. The spectacle is twofold: music and landscape, notes and the murmur of water.
"Un Soir au Parc" stands out for its eclectic artistic programming, reflecting the cultural openness of a town accustomed to welcoming visitors from all over the world. Jazz, classical music, French chanson, world music, Mediterranean world music... each edition offers a carefully selected lineup of artists for the quality of their performance and their ability to create communion with the open-air audience.
The concerts are held in the evening, at a time when the Provençal heat subsides and the golden sunset lights make the river sparkle. Families arrive with their picnics, lovers settle on the grass, groups of friends set up their chairs... The atmosphere is that of the great popular festivals of the South, relaxed, warm, open to all.
The Sorgue river is at the heart of L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue's identity. Born from the famous Fontaine de Vaucluse - the most powerful resurgence in Europe - a few kilometers to the east, the Sorgue flows through the town in several branches, creating the islands and canals that gave the city its nickname "Venice of the Comtat". Its clear, cool waters, its water wheels (the last remnants of medieval drapery industry) and its shaded banks provide an extraordinary natural setting for open-air concerts.
At night, the reflections of the stage and lights on the water add a poetic dimension to the concerts. Spectators sitting by the river enjoy a unique sensory experience where music, the coolness of the water, the scents of the Provençal night, and the croaking of frogs create an unforgettable natural harmony.
Summer in L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue is a season of intense cultural and tourist activity. In addition to the evening concerts, the town lives to the rhythm of its antique dealers and flea market vendors, its famous Sunday morning market, its terrace restaurants, and its art galleries. The second major International Antiques & Flea Market Fair is also held in August, attracting additional international clientele.
The surrounding villages - Fontaine-de-Vaucluse, Gordes, Les Baux-de-Provence, the Luberon - complete the tourist offering of one of Provence's most beautiful and richest regions. "Un Soir au Parc" naturally fits into this context of quality of life and Provençal art de vivre, offering locals and visitors alike a gentle and convivial way to enjoy summer nights in this privileged setting.
The "Un Soir au Parc" series returns to L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue in summer 2026 for new open-air concerts by the Sorgue river. Jazz, classical music, French chanson, and world music will animate the summer evenings in the parks of the Comtadine Venice.
