The Très Court International Film Festival is a singular cinematic event entirely devoted to films with a duration of less than 4 minutes. Created in 1999 by Marc Bati and Pascal Toutain, the festival began at the Forum des Images in Paris before establishing itself in Tours, which has become its main anchor city in France. The association Tout en Très Court coordinates the entire event from Paris.
The main feature of Très Court is its international and simultaneous dimension. Every year in June, for ten days, the same film programs are screened in nearly 100 cities across 30 countries on five continents. This unique format allows audiences worldwide to discover the same films at the same time, creating a global community around the very short format.
The festival's programming is structured into six selections, two of which are in competition:
In Tours, screenings take place at the Cinémas Studio, the city's art-house cinema located on rue des Ursulines. The Cinémas Studio, with its seven screens, is an emblematic venue in Tours' cultural life and a loyal partner of the festival. Screenings are complemented by meetings with directors, discussion sessions with the public, and festive events.
Over the years, Très Court has become a true springboard for emerging directors. The under-4-minute format imposes stimulating creative constraints that push filmmakers to get to the essentials. Fiction, animation, documentary, experimental: all genres are represented, offering a rich and eclectic panorama of contemporary audiovisual creation.
