Over 25 years of Asian cinema in Tours

The Festival International de Cinéma Asiatique de Tours (FICAT) is one of the oldest and most respected film events in the Centre-Val de Loire region. For over a quarter of a century, it has showcased the richness and diversity of Asian cinematography, offering Tours audiences a window onto creations from China, Japan, South Korea, India, Thailand, Iran, Vietnam, and many other countries on the continent.

An eclectic and demanding program

Each edition of FICAT offers a carefully selected program that covers the entire spectrum of Asian cinema:

  • New films and previews: discovery of feature films never before screened in France
  • Documentaries: documentary perspectives on Asian societies and cultures
  • Auteur films: works by recognized artists and new talents
  • Short films: selection of short formats from Asia
  • Children's screenings: films accessible to the youngest to raise awareness from childhood
  • Tributes and retrospectives: highlighting major filmmakers

Rooted in the Tours urban area

While the Cinémas Studio form the heart of the festival with their seven art-house screens, FICAT's influence extends far beyond. Thanks to partnerships with numerous cultural institutions, screenings and events take place throughout the urban area:

  • La Cinémathèque de Tours
  • La Médiathèque de Saint-Avertin
  • L'Espace Culturel du Parfum
  • CICLIC (regional agency for books, images, and digital culture in Centre-Val de Loire)
  • Collège au Cinéma: a program to introduce middle school students to cinema

Encounters and cultural exchanges

Beyond the screenings, the festival is a vibrant space for encounters and exchanges. Asian directors, actors, and producers are invited to present their films and engage in dialogue with the public. Round tables, conferences, and debates complement the program, offering insights into Asian cultures and societies through the lens of cinema. FICAT thus contributes to intercultural dialogue and openness to the world.
