A week of artistic and cultural creations in the heart of the Vendée coast
Every summer, Jard-sur-Mer vibrates for a week to the rhythm of the J'Art Festival, an arts and culture event in the Vendée seaside resort. Creative workshops, exhibitions, open-air concerts, cinema, meetings with authors, and street performances animate the resort for a full week in July. This event, supported by the town hall, unites residents and holidaymakers in a joyful and accessible celebration of creativity in all its forms, amidst preserved nature between the ocean and forests.
Jard-sur-Mer, a charming seaside resort in southern Vendée, nestled between the Longeville state forest and the wild Atlantic beaches, hosts its J'Art Festival every summer: a week of cultural and artistic radiance that transforms the resort into a true village of the arts. Supported by the town hall and local associations, this summer event brings together residents and holidaymakers around creativity in all its forms, in an exceptional natural setting.
The J'Art Festival is distinguished by the richness and diversity of its program, which mixes visual arts, literature, music, cinema, and street arts. For seven days, the squares, gardens, and municipal halls of Jard-sur-Mer become ephemeral stages and workshops.
The sculpture workshop is one of the festival's highlights, offering participants the chance to work with stone, clay, or wood under the guidance of professional artists. Creative making workshops—cardboard construction, notebook creation, origami, nature drawing—welcome children and adults in an educational and fun approach. These workshops are generally open without registration, aiming for maximum accessibility.
The festival gives a prime place to literature, with meetings and book signings organized with local authors. These exchange sessions allow the public to discover recent works, question authors about their creative process, and take home a signed souvenir of the festival. The local media library and partner bookstores actively participate in these literary events.
The local cinema, Les Ormeaux, partners with the J'Art Festival by offering a selection of films on an artistic theme at a reduced price. This eclectic film program offers festival-goers an additional dimension to their cultural experience, extending the reflection on art from another perspective.
The evenings of the J'Art Festival resonate with the sound of open-air concerts that bring holidaymakers together in a relaxed and festive atmosphere. Local and regional bands perform on stage with varied musical offerings, from jazz to rock, including world music and French chanson. These free concerts are a popular event for families who extend their day into the evening on the main village square.
The J'Art Festival is a collective creation involving all stakeholders in municipal life: cultural and sports associations, shopkeepers, artisans, local artists, volunteers. This community mobilization gives the event a rare authenticity and a human warmth that contrasts with large industrialized festivals. The festival is also an opportunity for local and regional artists to exhibit their work, meet their audience, and build connections with other creators.
The municipality of Jard-sur-Mer invests in the J'Art Festival as a tool for cultural and tourist development. The event helps to liven up the resort during the peak summer season, to retain repeat visitors, and to position Jard-sur-Mer as a destination that is not just about its beaches and forests, but also offers a rich and engaged cultural life.
The natural setting of Jard-sur-Mer is inseparable from the J'Art Festival experience. The town boasts one of the most preserved natural heritages in Vendée: 5 kilometers of wild coastline, fine sandy beaches protected by the Longeville state forest, coastal hiking trails, and a remarkably intact environment. Nearby are the Pointe d'Arcay nature reserve, the wild Conches beach, and the trails of the Payré estuary. Coming to the J'Art Festival also means choosing a moment of total escape, between art and nature, to the rhythm of the Atlantic swell.
The J'Art Festival 2026 will animate Jard-sur-Mer for a week in July, with its usual program of creative workshops, literary encounters, open-air concerts, and cinema screenings. Program to be confirmed by the town hall in spring 2026.
